I'm a FTM and plan to breast feed. Both DH and I will be in weddings this summer which means a few nights sometimes even a weekend away from LO while he's still very young (I'm due April 9/12 first wedding is June 30). My best friend is getting married and she lives about 6 hours away and I will not be able to take LO with me. I want to make sure I have enough frozen breast milk so that my mom can use it to bottle feed while I'm away (I really don't want to have to use formula), but I'm worried my freezer stash will not be big enough by that time. I've been reading online about how it's not best to start pumping until after 6 weeks and that most women get an average of 1-2oz per day for their stash.
I guess I'm looking for suggestions on what I should do and if it's even realistic for me to think I'll have enough frozen breast milk to be away for 2 nights when little one is approx. 12 weeks old. TIA.

I EBF and began pumping when my DD was 1 week old. I pumped after her first morning feeding and after her bedtime feeding. By the time she was 1 month old, I had no problem getting at least 5oz to freeze every day, sometimes more. This continued till DD was about 6 months old, then her appetite "caught up" with the amount i had been pumping, and i hardly ever have enough to freeze now. I'm very thankful that i began pumping early....I suppose I had an "oversupply" of milk, but it sure gave me a heck of a freezer stash, which helped put my mind at ease, knowing my DD would always have plenty of BM.
I think you can definitely have enough stored by the time your child is 12 weeks, if you start early. And in my experience, pumping early on really increased my supply and i've never had any supply issues. Good luck mama!
