  I used to make these in a restaurant. We pronounced it Yee-ro. Which I have heard about 50 different ways to pronounce it.

  Forgot to add. Yee-ro Is correct. our boss would rip on us if we pronounced it any other way.. and he was greek..

  I googled it and apparently there is an "American English" way of pronouncing it...I always thought it was like "hero"....

  we've always pronounced it yee-ros, however my H's friend (from Greece) said it could be both ways; probably just because the jai-ros version is so widely said.
