Trouble TTC

If you were us... SA or HSG first?

Hi! So I talked with the RE the other day and she said that it would cost us 1,000 OOP for my HSG but would only cost about 160 for a SA. Would you go ahead and get the SA done while we save up for the HSG or wait and do them both around the same time? Because I have PCOS we have already decided that if he has problems during the SA that we will probably have to put our TTC journey on hold for financial reasons. Our insurance doesn't cover an HSG. What did you guys do? p.s.- I know that the ttc journey is an expensive one unfortunately

  • I'd the SA first.  Have you called to see if that (or any part of it) would be covered?

  • I did and they said that they can't say for sure because it depends on the code that the doctor uses. They said to go ahead and get it done and then they would review it. However, if they don't cover it then I have a medical bill I have to pay. I am going to count on them not paying it that way if they do I will be pleasantly surprised but it they don't I won't be up a creek without a paddle :)

  • I'd do the SA first.  Mainly because its cheaper and since you said that if there is a problem then you might have to put it on hold I would rather spend less money to know I can't move forward instead of having to pay OOP for both to find out you can't move forward.  GL

  • Definitely the SA first. If there are problems there (hopefully not!), you can probably get into a uro and try vitamins and things while you save for the HSG or anything else.

  • My RE gave me a list of all of our tests along with the codes.  I called the insurance company and read them the codes to find out if it was covered or not.

  • I would go on and get the SA out of the way.  We are completely OOP but somehow insurance paid for my HSG.  I think it's worth looking into.

This is my thought exactly..especially with an SA usually guys have no signs of having anything wrong, We wasted a year of TTC because my first RE didnt suggest we get one..and unfortunatley we were one of those couples who were blindsided by a MFI diagnosis...on top of my PCOS :-(

Hope it is good news for you!
