I finally did it - but I'm not sure I did it "right"?? I thought that the poop would come off a lot easier? Do I have to spray and scrape? How much can remain on the diaper? There was also a water that got every where around the toilet. I guess I thought it would be a lot different/easier. Any tips?
Also, how do you transport diapers? Do you have a pail? A wet bag? I have to bring the poop diaper downstairs, and then the wet "poop free" diaper back up stairs, so I obviously need something.
Last question - how often do you spray your diapers? Do you do it at the end of every day or do you wait until you have a couple to do?
I'm not sure why this seems so daunting. Can't wait until it becomes one of those things that I just do and then wonder why I though it was such a big deal! TIA.
Re: CD mommas who spray
I just spray no scraping. Normally it is just a stained area left no actual poop. No tips on not getting water around the toilet. We have a wet bag in the bathroom just for these diapers. We squeze as much water out then put them in the bag. We try to spray after each one, but of course during the day LO does not always allow me to do that.
I still hate spraying after all this time honestly. I have sprayed them in the tub and then thoroughly cleaned the tub and I prefer doing it in the tub way more!
Most of the time I'm able to get the spray under the poopy area and it kind of peels off (weird, I know) so just little bits are left around the edges. I have had some trouble with spray going out of the toilet but I'm getting better. You just have to make sure the diaper is way down in the toilet and you get the sprayer at the right angle. The first diaper I did was completely dripping and I was glad I happened to have a wetbag right next to me. But the next time, I was able to fold the diaper up and it wasn't dripping when I brought it to the pail.
I usually spray right after I change him, but we do have a small wetbag next to the changing table that we put them in if we just can't get to it. And he's in daycare most days so I spray those when he comes home.
Put it down in the bowl and spray down. I get all the poo off but it is still color tinged. Lift up all seats. I do get little water sprays on the bowl rim but it's the part no one sits on so I just grab a little sheet of toilet paper and dry any water drops.
I save the plastic grocery store bags and grab one before I spray. I keep it on the ground (opened up) so that when I am done sprying I just drop the drippy dipe in the bag. To get out some of the excess water I will sometimes roll down. I usually take the insert out prior. That way it does not hold a ton of water. Unless the opening is really dirty, then I will take the insert out after spraying.
If the dipe lining folds over to hide poop just hold it by the part where the insert slides in (if you can find a clean part). Like at the slit. Once it is wet the weight will pull it flat so that you can spray without the wrinkles.
If I am motivated and have time I will do the diaper right away. If busy I will do two or three when I get the chance. I immediately bring the Walmart bag to the diaper hamper in the garage and toss them in.
Also, I do not spray when the poo was ploppable. If there is color on the liner that is fine with me it's the chunks that should not go in the wash.

I spray every diaper as it happens, because it's easier to get off before it dries. Depending on what kind of diaper we're using, I pull the inserts out first so they don't soak up a bunch of water and throw them in the pail. Then in the bathroom, I fold the diaper in half, inside-out and hold it kind of against the toilet bowl. I spray one side and then the other. Sometimes water still splashes out, but I think it helps make less of a mess. I usually spray until there is only stain left (if any). Sometimes if you try spraying at different angles, one works better than the other.
We also keep a small wet bag hanging next to the toilet. If it's a pocket shell, I just throw it in the bag. If it's a fitted or AIO I squeeze out as much of the water as I can before putting it in the wet bag. Then I spray a little Clorox (or whatever cleaner you prefer) wherever the water splashed and wipe it down.
