Hi Ladies - I had my son on January 18th after my water broke - my due date was not until the 26th.
I had a very easy labor - but I started to run a fever so they wanted to get him out ASAP so they had me start pushing at 8 cm since they could stretch me to 10 cm during a contraction. They used a vacuum on him and they also cut me - alot.
I am still having trouble recovering - no one ever talk about how difficult a vaginal delivery can be. I still cannot sit upright straight and my son is 8 days old.
Re: Labor was easy - Recovery Sucks
Congratulations on your son! I'm sorry you're having a difficult recovery, though. I'm guessing it's because of the vacuum and the cutting. My recovery from my vaginal delivery wasn't a walk in the park but I was able to sit. I hope you feel better soon!

Congrats on your son but sorry for such a rough labour! I was also told to push early and cut and the recovery from it was horrible.
I can say that it DOES get better. I think mine started to feel better around 9 - 10 days and it went from no improvement to a huge improvement over night. I found that the most helpful things for healing were sitz baths every day (even 2x daily) and then keeping it really really dry after. I used a hair dryer on low/cool to dry myself down there afterward and that's when the healing got moving along much quicker.
Good luck, I know it really is the worst trying to take care of baby when you are in that much pain!
Oh, I can relate. 9 pound 9 ounce baby, forceps, episiotomy, all equals one giant painful mess. Warm water helped me a lot, use the squirt bottles they give you at the hospital. Motrin was a lifesaver as well so take it as the directions allow you to. I didn't try a sits bath but I'm told they help. Otherwise, just try to take it
Like PP said, I noticed a vast improvement seemingly overnight at around 10 days or so. I would say I'm about 95% at this point. I still get random stabs of pain every so often but I'm able to walk, sit, cross my legs, etc as I normally would.
Thank goodness! I'm in pain everytime I pass gas (TMI sorry) and my bms aren't very pleasant either. 2nd degree tears and episiotomy suck big monkey toe. I can't wait to get through this part to focus on LO
Lol, I still get afraid when I have to poop but it's much, much better. You'll be feeling better soon!!
I agree!
It does get better though! I spend a few days at the time feeling the same and then I would have a big jump in my recovery. This week I'm out running errands and taking stroller walks.
Make sure you take it easy and take care of yourself! Otherwise your recovery will be even more long and drawn out and sucky.
The recovery after my daughter was horrible. You are right - no one ever talks about that. She had to be vacuumed out as well after pushing for 3.5 hours. I had third degree tears and it took about two full weeks to finally feel like I could go without taking pain medication. A bath feels amazing, just FYI. I was taking about six per day because of the pain. It was the only thing that could soothe it.
I have to say though - after the second baby, the recovery is a BREEZE. I pushed for six minutes with my son, and out he came. I was up walking around the afternoon he was born, no problems. I had one small first degree tear that required one stitch.
