I am not due until August but I am hoping to start soaking up a lot of information about natural birth.
I am considered high risk because when I was 22 I had 2 strokes. I am anti-coagulated for the rest of my life now. I am Canadian but when we decided to try for a baby we were living in Massachusetts for a year. Because of my history I had a lot of doctors appointments with all kinds of specialists and high risk doctors before starting to TTC. Every doctor said that for the birth, I would be monitered closely and they would have to induce me to make sure that there would be a lot of doctors there the second I started labor. When we moved back to Canada they were a bit more relaxed but still said induction would be needed.
Now that I am pregnant we are now living in Scotland. The doctor here laughed at the medical intervention that was mentioned to me before. He said that the safest thing for me would be to have as natural a birth as possible. All births in the area we are living are handled by midwives and they want things to go as naturally as possible for me. I am very happy about this. Because of my history they are going to have an OB on hand in case something happens.
I know that things happen and I may end up needing something done but I really like that I now have the option of going natural. I know I can handle it, i've survived 2 strokes so I know I can get through temporary pain.
Re: Glad that the situation is different. I want to go natural now.
