What is the best piece of baby gear you have? And the worst?

Out of all the baby stuff you got, what is (are) the one(s) you can't live without? What would you not recommend at all?

  • Hands down the Rock 'n Play and Fisher Price Zen Swing because you can remove the seat part and take it around the house.  I just wish the mobile actually turned or had lights.

My hands free pumping bra is also a lifesaver, as well as BIG plastic cups because I drink water like no one's business and can't keep getting up to refill it.

  • Loading the player...
  • Instead of getting a big swing..we got a portable one and I love it! It may not have all the bells and whistles..but baby loves it, it is light, and it takes up a small amount of room..so I can also bring it into my bathroom when getting ready.

    :)

I WISH I had a hands free! I have to do one side, then the other..so it takes up a lot of my day

  • Rock N Play, changing table (I know it's a duh but I've heard people say they don't need it), and our travel system (we just have a graco but I love the stroller).

We hardly use the bouncy chair (I hope we start to use it at some point he just isn't that interested) and he hasn't used the crib at all.  If he doesn't sleep in the rock and play he's in his pack and play.

  • LO loves her rock n play, bouncer, take and go changing mat, and activity mat.  We also got an extension attachment for our shower so we can pull it down and shower her... she LOVES having the water rinse over her, if we stop for too long she fusses.

Pack and play was a waste for us, she HATES it, so was the moses basket, and sleep sacks.

But you never know, my LO is complete opposite from the LO I babysit.

  • Love our Ergo DS goes to sleep in it right away when we go for walks. Also, our Boppy is convenient for feedings. Our Homedics white noise machine is great he can't sleep without it on.

  • We could do without our swing.  Love the boppy as well, lots of uses for it!  Dr. Brown's formula pitcher is great, too!!!

I agree, don't get a changing table - what are you going to do with it when you are done having kids?  It's useless then.  Get a nice dresser that can double as a changing table, then the kd has a dresser!

  • DD LOVES:  Rock n' play, Whale of a tub bath, graco travel system (loves walks AND car rides), bouncy seat, tiny love mobile over her crib.

COULD GO WITHOUT: Swing, swaddler blankets (she hates being swaddled), Pack n Play (total waste for us).

  • Our number 1 thing is the Snugabunny swing. That is really the only thing I could say DD daughter likes. She barely sits in the PNP, bouncer, and Napnanny chill (total waste for us). I also really like the boppy-very versatile.

Worst-Napnanny Chill minly, or whatever it is called. Also I like our PNP but would probably have registered for a more mobile and lightweight one. We have the Chicco LX playard.

  • Our fisher price sugar plum cradle and swing, and our activity mat! We could live without the plastic bath tub and bouncer

  • Most used: I use our rocking chair, which we bought 2nd hand off craigslist for $40, multiple times a day. I also use both the Boppy & My Brest Friend daily & nightly. Otherwise, she just needs me, plenty of onesies & blankets.

Least used: I got two sling carriers at a consignment sale and my baby does not like them at all.  Unfortunately, her crib has also gotten almost zero use - she does not sleep in it but I'm hoping to transition her to it in a couple months.

  • Best piece of gear we have is the swing. DS is asleep in it right now. I can't live without our bottle warmer.

We never use the pack n play. IDK why we still have it in our family room, DS always cries when he's put in it, but will loves his crib, its weid.

  • Was just lurking, sorry to butt in but wanted to share what worked for us.

The RnP was a godsend. I used it as a bassinet next to my side of the bed. She didn't hate her crib but I was a nervous wreck and this way I didn't have to get out of bed to check her. She really liked it too. I was very sad on the day she sat up in it.

A swing was an awesome thing to have. She just chilled in it and slept in it during the day. The bouncer was nice too but she was safer in the swing with my now 2 year old niece running around and the dog.

Burp cloths, totally needed. Just don't lose a used one in the couch for a bit. Yuck!

Footie sleepers were great as well. When she was really little I had snap ones which was nice. Now zippers are better as she tries to crawl away.

Playtex Ventaire bottles. These made my colicky acting baby not cry for hours at night. I guess it was just the bottles.

Those that don't use the crib much yet. You might get a lot of use out of it when your LO's are older. I love having the crib now as she'll sometimes play in it before waking me up in the morning. I have it in my room as we need to find a bigger place so she can have her own room.

I still use my travel system stroller. It's a graco and works and folds up great. She'll fit in it for a long time. I sometimes miss the infant seat but she's more comfortable in her convertible.

Again, sorry for butting in but thought some perspective from outside of the newborn period would help. Hug and squish on your squishy babies. I miss when she was little sometimes. But, watching her grow has been amazing.
