I am a teacher and have only ever had one student in our school named Afton that was a girl. It's NMS, but I can see where it is an appealing name for some. I don't think I would like it at all for a boy's name.
Behindthename.com does not have it... I'm surprised so many people on here know an Afton and I'm super suprised they are all girls - it sounds like a bad boy's name. Not a fan.
Oddly enough I have known two, both girls. I never really thought about it but it's not feminine enough for me, I don't hate it or anything, just kind of neutral.
My niece is named Afton. She is gorgeous, spunky, and super athletic. It fits her perfectly. I would have never thought to use it, but I really like it because of her.
Re: Also, Afton
Sounds like a caftan... I don't like it. It also reminds me of the names of fabric blends, like rayon or Dacron.
In any case, I'd call it boy only.

this, to me sounds like a boy name and I really really don't like it
Affton is the name of a suburb where I live... I can't get behind it as a name for a person.
As far as boy/girl, I know of a baby girl named Afftyn.
Afton Cooper was a slutty character on the show "Dallas."
Guilty pleasure of mine because I love the song 'Sweet Afton"
*edit* for a girl
