Balance Check In

One of the 7 B's of AP is Balance. From Dr. Sears:

"In your zeal to give so much to your baby, it's easy to neglect the needs of yourself and your marriage. As you will learn the key to putting balance in your parenting is being appropriately responsive to your baby ? knowing when to say "yes" and when to say "no," and having the wisdom to say "yes" to yourself when you need help."
 
What have you done to maintain balance this past week?

  • I've been enjoying some me time while Ari has been in Montessori school on Thurs & Fri a.m.'s. I've also been napping with Ari every day - he's back to napping after a long strike & thank goodness! I forgot how tired 1st tri makes you.

  • I went to the gym yesterday and today. We have marriage counseling tomorrow. :)

  • I took LO to the library today, and left not just with story books for her, and a stack of parenting books, but also some novels for me to read.

    It may not sound like a lot, but it was nice browsing shelves for books just for me, and not all about what I "should" or could be doing with my child to be a better parent.

  • I can work remotely, so we are in Florida for a month staying with IL's. My family is also down here, but on the other side of the state, so we are going to see them tonight and then going on a "vacation" weekend with LO this weekend to the beach. I'm super excited. 

    It's nice being around family - mostly for DH because MIL can take care of LO while I am working, giving him free time. But I do get more free time at night, and we have gone out to dinner once. We don't have any family that lives by us at home, so it's refreshing.

    I still haven't been able to carve out any real me-time because we've been inundated with visiting relatives. I'm hoping to change that this weekend and walk the beach at least a few times alone. :) I love the beach.

  • Man, I need to work on this one! I went to yoga Monday, but I need to work on doing something everyday for me, as well for my marriage, we have forgotten to be a couple now that we are on parent duty!
  • After work on Monday, I did some shopping with a friend and then went to our book club meeting. It was really nice to be out in the city and not be on bedtime duty! Yesterday I (finally!) joined a gym -- now to actually use it! I think getting some exercise and getting in better shape will make me feel a lot better.

  • I had to take notes at a conference on Thursday and my parents happened to be coming to visit, so DH came with me to the conference and the paid-for dinner afterwards.  We ended up getting date night free. :)  Also, today DH is taking DS so I can go work on my MA thesis at the library all afternoon.  Not really fun, but it's some alone time to work on my thoughts.
