Swing, Bouncer or Both? XP with N&BG

Recently started looking into bouncers and swings and am loving the Fisher Price Snugabunny for both products. However, I've started to wonder if I really need both and should maybe purchase just one or the other.

For FTM's, what do you plan on purchasing? And for 2+ moms, did you buy one or both and feel that either one or both are must have products? Thanks for the input.

  • I like having both, they give baby something different to do.

You can also bring the bouncer into the bathroom to shower!

  •  We got both, but DD hated the swing and we only used the bouncer.  I am debating whether or not to even drag the swing out for #2 because it took up so much room.

  • We are getting both second hand from my SIL. If that was not the case, I would have the same question as you. I have heard that every baby is different and likes different things. Do you know anyone that has a swing to try out after baby is here, before you dish out the money?

That's a good idea that I didn't even think of! I have a few friends that will be having a little one a few months before me, so it's not a bad idea to maybe try one out with my LO.

  • I liked having both for DD.  The swing generally stayed in our living room, but the bouncer went all over the place, including in the bathroom while I would shower.

  • My sister is loaning us her bouncer, and we're planning to also get a swing.  Not sure we'd buy both if one wasn't being loaned to us, but maybe - I know my niece loved both, so probably.

  • Both my boys HATED the swing. We tried one that was an expensive one that we borrowed (thank goodness) and another cheaper one. Neither worked for either boy. Within seconds the motion of it would make them scream.

They both LOVED the bouncer through. Both would just sit happily in for a while. It was great. I had one on our main floor and one up on the 2nd floor. I used them all the time.

  • We didn't have the space for either for DS, but we're strongly considering getting both for this one now that we have lots of room. I intend on either borrowing from a friend, or picking them up at a consignment sale because I don't want to pay full price for both. We're also considering getting an infant to toddler rocker for each grandparents house, since they all live 15 mins away.

  • We have the Snugabunny swing and will be buying a new bouncer (we threw out our old one - hated it). I would definitely have both. The swing was great for naps and the bouncer was great for portability. It took about two months for DD to even tolerate the bouncer, but once she did, I'd bring her in the bathroom while I showered. I would not get the Snugabunny bouncer though. It's too boring. We plan on getting the FP Rainforest bouncer.

  • I am going to register for both- my nephew loved the swing and the bouncer seemed too convenient not to register for.
  • Definitely a bouncy chair for all of the reasons above. We borrowed a swing and DS didn't like it.

I'm borrowing a swing this time around too.

  • Registering for both (Brightstarts inGenuity smart and quiet portable swing &  Fisherprice newborn to toddler portable rocker), but if I don't receive both, I'll wait until I have him to decide if I'll pick up the other one. It was almost a 50/50 split when I asked fellow moms which one they prefer, so It's really a shot in the dark as to what will work for you. I'd ask for both, but not automatically buy both yourself (especially if you can ask to borrow someone elses or buy it second hand)

  • We are getting a bouncer. The swings are just too huge for our tiny apartment.

  • I am registering for the swing and have four bouncers that I got from Target on clearance (two for each floor).  My sons both loved the swing, so I'll get dos second one if both of these kids do too!

As for the bouncer, I would recommend a smaller/cheaper one.  The snugabunny and lamb and those type are quite a bit larger than ones like the rainforest one, and aren't any better function wise for so much more money.
