VBAC

VAC Recs in Atlanta area?

I'm pregnant with my second and really would like to do a VBAC. Does anyone have any recommendations for doctor in Atlanta area (preferrably that delivers at Northside or Piedmont)?

Re: VAC Recs in Atlanta area?

  • I was seeing Dr. Biggs who is right there in the medical building next to Piedmont.  She was supportive of VBAC, but I had to change OBs for insurance reasons.  I am at Emory now, and I will say that this group seems even more supportive.  They say they have the highest VBAC success rate in the city, but I don't know if that is true.  They even told me if I had come in wanting a repeat C they would have tried to talk me out of it.  FWIW.  GL!

  • I know the Atlanta ICAN board will only in-good-faith rec Dr. Joe Tate out of Norcross who delivers at Atlanta Medical or the midwives at Isis who also, I think, deliver out of Atlanta Medical. There are others in the area who say the right things RE VBAC and not many offices have out-and-out bans on them (nor do any of the hospitals) but you just have to be really proactive and adamant at some of the offices and Tate and Isis take some of that need out of the equation since they're known for being the go-to offices in the area for VBAC.

(That being said, I'm not with either of them because I live far north of the city, but I've done some serious research because of how my 1st c/s made me feel.)

  • I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant and have Dr. Jacqueline Walters (of Castillo & Walters OB/GYN) as my doctor.  She delivers at Northside.  I go to her Duluth office b/c I live a bit northeast of Northside.  I've spoken to her about a VBAC and she said she's not crazy about them but as long as I sign a waiver of the risks involved, she's ok with it.  She has let me know that she will NOT induce (aka give me pitocin) or let me go past 40 weeks.  I had a CS with DS at 37 weeks b/c I had per-eclempsia.  I tried to have a vaginal delivery but didn't get past 4cm dilated.  After 14 hours, I had a CS.  I'm no longer working, as I was with my first pregnancy, and don't show any signs of per-eclempsia this time around.  So I hope I can stick to my birth plan.

    Hope this helps!
