Zantac for Reflux

We have been struggling with LO's reflux for several weeks now. After several days of his straining which culminates in cries and shrieking we went back to the pediatrician. His heart and lungs are fine but they think it is reflux that is making him upset. They prescribed Zantac to see if that can help control it. Has anyone else used Zantac? Did you have good results? How long did it take to work?

    We were given it for the same reason a month ago and it didn't help her much after the first day or so. We switched our formula to Enfamil AR and that has done amazingly well for her! No more crying or arching her back while eating :)

    It worked for us. We noticed a difference in 2-3 days I think.

    We noticed a slight difference but DD was still super fussy and spit up a ton.   At her two month well visit, her pedi put her on Prevacid as well as having us put rice cereal in her night time bottle.  It has helped ton!  Her spit up is minimal and this last week she's been a perfect baby!

    Both of my girls have been on Zantac.  It worked great for DD#1, and didn't work for DD#2 and we are now on Prilosec.  It's working much better, but she is also colicky, so we have other issues :o)

    Spit up really isnt the problem, although he does spit up. It is the gurgling in the throat and the straining/grunting sound that ends with the shrieking that we are trying to fix. I think it is the acid burning his throat that is causing him to act like this.

    We tried Zantac and our LO had diarrhea everyday he was on it starting with day 2.  Our doc and I decided after one week to take him off of it.  We're on day 4 of prevacid now.  He was crying in pain last night and a little tonight in between feedings, so we're hopeful and praying that this will kick in and work...instead of cause other side affects.  Reflux is such a guessing game and frustrating.  Mostly to not know exactly whats wrong with LO when he cries the "in pain" cry. :( I finally narrowed it down to reflux and an overactive letdown from me.  GL to you!

    DS was taking Zantac for about a month, worked great and then didnt seem to make a difference either way if we gave it to him or not. We went back to DR and she rxd prilosec. Cant tell if its working or not I think he has the flu so we have been dealing with that.

    This is V.  The prevacid has turned her into a completely different baby.  She doesn't seem to be in pain, she's not gulping, choking as much, or arching her back anymore.  She still spits up constantly (I do a FULL load of laundry a day on a good day) but she's gaining weight slowly but surely and happy so I don't care.  I hope the Zantac works for your LO but if not there are things that can be done.
