St Joe's??

Hi!

I'm new to Baltimore and just found out we are expecting our 3rd child! We are thrilled!

I'm probably going with Capital Women's Care in Towson as my OB, and they deliver at St. Joe's. Can anyone share their experience at that hospital? How are the facilities and staff? Thanks so much for any insight!

Re: St Joe's??

  • i cannot say enough good things about both capital womens care and st joes.

i easily could have had a csection but dr. duke stuck it out with me for hours. not that csections are bad but she just had a feeling my son would flip on his own and he did.

    gl and welcome.

  • I only visited St. Joe's when a friend delivered there, but it seemed like a great hospital.
  • I had DS there in June 2010 and loved my experience.  The nurses were great, the facilities were great... no complaints other than the lactation consultants, but that's another story for another day (and I haven't seen/heard others complain, so maybe it was just my lousy luck).

I could definitely complain about the one I got who told me she didn't have time for me :(

My sister gave birth there in Nov (emergency c-section @ 35 weeks) and I was disappointed w/the lactation support.  She was not given a hospital grade pump until 36+ hours after delivery and there were other areas where she was let down in that department.

Same here about the lactation consultants. The problem is only one of them has breast fed so the other two have no freaking clue. When i had problems breastfeeding later i called the GBMC lactation line and they were amazing. One of my friends told me they will not question you about where you gave birth and she was correct. GBMC helped me though mastitis and I was so thankful.

DITTO!!  They aren't on the same page and SUPER confusing, I was in tears for days.  Thank goodness for Upper Chesapeake's support group.

  • Ditto with most of the other posters! I love CWC, and in particular Dr. Zern. She did my last c-section and was wonderful. I'm actually going to change practices for my next baby, but only because CWC does not support a VBA2C.
  • Thanks everyone! Sounds like I am all set, then. Fortunately this will be my third time breastfeeding so I hope I won't need too much help from the LC's. :)

  • I work at St. Joe's. We recently received an award for our maternity and women's health department. I am a patient of CWC, and will deliver at St. Joe's when the time comes. I have also worked at GBMC in the newborn nursery and postpartum unit, and I feel like St. Joe's care is much more compassionate and personal!

It's our mission. Loving service, compassionate care.

    Best of luck!
