Clogged Duct??

YIKES!  I am pretty sure I have a clogged duct.  It's in the left breast on the inside area.  It hurts so bad!  Any tips on how to get it out?  My little one is 7 months old and won't nurse very long unless he's getting a good let down and I can't get him to stay latched.  I am using heat and trying to get him to nurse a ton.  Anything else I can do?  Ouch!

 Thanks!

  • Massage it while he's nursing. Pump if you have to to try and get it out. I had a few earlier on and they took 24-48 hours to work themselves out.

  • Thanks for responding!  I have done heat all day and massaged.  He wouldn't nurse on that side so I have pumped all day.  I think I got most of it out but there are still a few lumps and it's so tender.

  • Like a PP said, massage the breast while he's nursing. Keep using the heat/hot compress. I've had a couple of clogged ducts and my nurse said to always start nursing on that side until it gets broken up. I actually am just getting over one! Good luck!

  • I've found that massage after a hot shower works well. I sit down on the side of the tub and lean forward so my nipple is facing the floor, I think gravity help a little.

Also, any time I've had a clog, I've noticed a very small white "scab" on my nipple. Teeny tiny, and sometimes hard to find, but as soon as I remove it the milk start flowing.

Not sure if any of my tips will work for you, but I hope you get some relief soon. Good luck!
