I wasn't expecting to get this far along since my first pregnancy delivered at 39 weeks. I'm 40 weeks on Tuesday and my OB scheduled the induction for Monday. I'm wondering why none of you have scheduled induction yet. I was so caught off guard that I didn't know what to ask. Should I be requesting things like sonograms, fluid checks, etc.?
I don't really want to be induced but it would be convenient. Grandparents are going out of town on the 7th so waiting a week would not be too good since we need them to watch DS while I'm in the hospital.
Re: Question for Overdue Mommas
A good number of us have scheduled to be induced actually. I'm scheduled for Tuesday as that's when I'll be 41 weeks, and my doc's policy is to not let their patients go past 41 weeks.
I didn't want mine sooner because I wanted to give LO the chance to come on his own. However, he seems entirely too comfortable in there, and my doc is concerned about meconium in the womb as well as baby not getting the nutrients he needs because I've been losing weight the past month. I would push to be allowed to go longer, but mentally I'm exhausted with pregnancy and happy to meet my son.
40 weeks is just an estimate honestly of when baby should arrive and is really a guess at best. If I hadn't been so miserable with throwing up every night and losing weight, I would be pushing to wait another week because my pregnancy has otherwise been complication free. You do what you feel needs to be done, but don't feel pressured to be induced if you would really like more time. You're technically not past due until 42 weeks. I can understand though needing to have the baby within a certain timeframe so you have someone to watch your other child.
Best of luck to you!

My OB's practice doesn't talk induction until 41 weeks. At my next appointment which is Monday, they will again check for progress and make a recommendation from there. My OB is actually having surgery tomorrow so if I deliver any time in the next week it will be by one of her partners. If we have to schedule inductions I will probably see if I can wait until my OB is back--but that depends on a lot of factors.
Also, I am just getting a cold so a part of me hopes the baby stays in until I am feeling a little better.
I'm scheduled for wed (which would be 41w1d)-
If you want to postpone an induction, i would definately have fluid check NST....i was going to push for this but my docs convinced since i'm entirely effaced and almost 4cm at 0 station that it makes more sense to give her a jump than to wait

My doctor won't force an induction until after 41weeks, but offers one for anyone who wants one after 39 weeks.
I went in yesterday (1 day before 40weeks) and he thought I would be a good candidate for induction. I was induced with my first son, and reacted very well- Pitocin was started at midnight, and I had him at 1:40 that afternoon. While that was medically necessary, i'm confident this induction will go well.
I changed my ticker to reflect my induction date! I'm actually due today.

I'm only one day over due but we have no plans on inducing until at least 42 weeks. I had a growth u/s on Friday to check LO's size since she was measuring big at 28w. She's currently in the 92% with an estimated weight of 8lb 15oz and my fluid levels are really good. I consented to an internal exam, something I was going to hold off for until this week. I was dialated to 2cm and 80% effaced with LO's head "right there". My dr said she could strip my membranes to see if that might get things going and I accepted. It didn't work.
My dr doesn't want to induce. She says there's no reason to as LO looks good and my risk of needing a c/s are higher if I'm induced and LO isn't ready to arrive. Very few women grow a baby that they can't birth vaginally and there's no reason to believe that I won't be able to have LO naturally.
I have an appt tomorrow afternoon and I'll ask to have my membranes stripped again. That's as far as I'm willing to go to help things along at this point. If LO isn't here by 41.5-42 weeks we'll discuss inducing at that time.
Ditto to some of you too - I am 40W, 2D and hoping not to induce. I am also trying for a natural birth - it's not uncommon for your first LO to be 4-10 days past your due date. Your due date is just an approximation - mine was based on LMP, so I'm not too stressed. She's moving a ton, I feel OK and have an appointment on Monday. My doctor is ok letting me go up to 42 weeks...although that sounds pretty taxing!
I scheduled a 2 hour appointment at a holistic spa on Saturday for Easing into Labor with accupuncture/ accupressure and massage - can't wait for some relaxation.
At this point, the most stress I'm experiencing is from my DH - he is so anxious it is driving me NUTS. I can't stand it.
I'm not sure what we'll do. Right now I have an induction on the books for 42w. My doctor doesn't usually like to go past 41w, but she agreed to this (pending good amniotic fluid and NST results). I will have frequent checks between now and then and we'll make more decisions if anything comes up in the meantime.
I know you're not overdue until AFTER 42w, but I am a little nervous if I go past 41w. We'll see.
My doc will do an u/s and NST at 41 weeks and we'll decide from there. I am not dialated and not effaced at all, and inducing right now would increase my chances for a C-section and more complicated birth. They won't let me go past 42 weeks. I'm anxious to meet her, but don't want to do anything that would cause any distress to the baby during the delivery process and necessitate a C-section. BTW, my due date is exact - I had an IUI.
So I'm one of those Jan mommas without an induction date!
That sounds amazing!!! Where do you live? I want to go to that spa!
My LO is an IUI baby too! We had a growth u/s at 28 weeks and she was measuring 10 days ahead. The u/s tech tried to tell me that my EDD was actually 1/15 instead of 1/25 and I told her that I knew exactly what day I got pg and that my EDD was definately not 1/15.
I have an appt later today and I'll have my dr strip my membranes again. Maybe LO will finally make her appearance. I've been having some crampy contrax that are wrapping around to my back. I'm having one right now and I'm very uncomfortable.
I'm in Ohio - the treatment was awesome - one hour of massage followed by one hour of reflexology/ accupressure.
I want to go back post-partum!
