Try out some bottles when your baby is born. Don't register for a ton! I bought a ton of avent bottles and my daughter refused to touch them. We ended up with Dr. Brown's bottles. I kept all my avent and Dr. Brown's, and will try them out when my next is born. Hopefully he or she will choose one of those and I don't have to purchase a third.
Dr. Brown's worked best for us. DS was very colicky and that was the only bottle he took too. If I may suggest buying one or two of a few different brands just to have on hand, to see what will work best. Or you might have a little one who's not picky whatsoever, and fine with any bottle!
I'm hoping to do breast feeding as well as pump and bottle also. Last year I bought a bottle called Adari (I think) for Alexander. It is sort of shaped like a boob and when it has warm milk it is supposed to feel more like one too. I'm hoping to use these this time. You can only find the newborn ones online (amazon) and some people have issues with the bottoms closing, but I tried ours with warm water and they worked great.
I had also registered for other ones too like everyone else suggested because apparently you don't pick this item, the baby does.

Sadly, whichever one your baby will take. I'd purchase a few different brands and see if they'll take it. Once you know what baby prefers, you can stockpile.
As others said it depends on baby, but if nursing works out you may want to try something that really mimics your nipple as it will be less change for baby and more likely to take to the bottle. We nursed, but when it came to take dd to day care we used Dr. Brown's. We liked them.
I bought DS dr brown but he took anything... the dr brown has to many peices and i will not be repurchaseing them for this time...pumping is hard enough you dont want to put together a 5 piece bottle...i think im going to try the tommee tippee this time to me they look alot like real breasts and alot different features with diff. nipples and flows...pricey but will try b4 big purchase of them.. and the born free has new disney designs comming out that i may try just get cause they are cute...today my babies r us was having sales on alot of things you should try to catch bottles on sale get a few to test 1st
I used Dr Browns and later on, Tommee Tipee Closer to Nature (not sure if they have those in the US?). Ds was breast fed and only took occasional bottle of pumped breast milk, so even though Dr Browns has a lot of parts, it didn't bother me as I wasn't washing multiple bottles a day. That said, this time, we will probably just go straight to the TT Closer to Nature b/c it has a lot less parts!

I bought a bunch of Tommee Tippee bottles and stuff before DD was born because I was planning on breastfeeding for a while before bottle feeding and supposedly the shape of the nipple on the TT bottles is most similar to a breast. Well, she did great BFing but when I moved her to bottles she never closed her mouth around them the right way so she couldn't really drink from them well. I switched to Avent because it had a narrower and longer nipple and she did great. I saved the TT ones though because the new baby may do better with them.
You really won't know until you try which ones your baby will like. Buy a few of your favorite brand and see how baby does. If it's a success you can always buy more. If not, you can try a different brand and will not have wasted all of the money I did on buying 9 bottles that the baby hates!
I agree with the others, depends on the baby so don't invest too much up front. With my first I used Dr. Brown's but with my 2nd, due to the BPA issues at that time, I went with these cheap ones from Gerber (altho I switched out the latex nipples with the silicone ones) and she was perfectly happy with them.
We used Playtex Drop-In's for our first. Loved them, still do. But, I'm tired of buying liners! They really start to add up (we've been buying them at BJ's & it's anywhere from $10 - $15 for 200 liners for the big bottles, they didn't have the small liners).
We're going to switch to the Born Free bottles. I've heard good reviews about them. I was able to find a woman via Craigslist who had & barely used them so I'm getting a bunch for $30 (some still new in box).
I'm also in the group who registered for a bunch of Avent and my son rejected them. I was mostly a breastfeeder so it was only for a break but he refused those, Dr. Browns, and Born Free. The one that finally worked the best was Playtex Drop-ins. I am officailly a BIG advocate for them. He was less fussy and happier with those bottles. Also its important to push all the air out of the top with this brand before feeding them.
