Trying to Get Pregnant

Hope this dosen't sound to obnoxious....

I know there are many women on here that have been trying to conceieve for quite some time so I hope that my story does not offend anyone. That said, let me share what has been going on in my ttc life and get some opinions from women who seem very well versed in the topic.

I am a mom to a little girl, she is 2 years 4 months. The first time DH and I were ttc we got pregnant the first month I was off birth control. We didn't expect it to come so easily, but it did.

Well, about 5 months ago we decided we would try again. The first 2 months I didn't think anything of it, just attributed it to the fact that we don't have sex as often as we did when we were single and it might take litttle longer the 2nd time around. After 3 months I decided to pay a bit more attention to my period. I noticed last month that about 2 weeks after my last period I started spotting pinkish/red for 5 days, then nothing, then 2 days later a full blown period. This concerned me bit as I never experienced this before, but I thought I was just being sensitive and decided to wait another month to see what happens before being worrying. I am due to get my period next Sunday, February 5th, and I woke up this morning again with that redish/pinkish spotting. I have all the usual signs of  my period too: lower back pain, irritability, cramping, etc.

I guess I am worried because it came so easily the first time and my period seems so out of whack this time. I never had spotting a week before my period and this is now the 2nd month in a row I am experiencing this. I am just curious if anyone else has been through something like this. I am going to call my doctor tomorrow to see if she has any concerns or if she wants to see me but until then if anyone has a similair story to share that would be helpful.

Thank you for reading my long entry and for any suggestions!

  • Cycles can be very frustrating, and always and never really don't exist when you are describing something about your cycle.

I would suggest charting...even charting your BBT. There are great tutorials on Fertilty Friend.com for this, and they are very helpful.

Do this for a few cycles to see what is going on. Charting will be able to confirm ovulation for you, and also see the length of your LP. Then, you will have something concrete to discuss with your doctor should that need arise.

I'm thinking of you. It's definitely frustrating, a lot of us have been there way too often. Good luck to you!

  • I would suggest temping..so that way you know when you ovulated and how long your luteal phase is. Spotting before a period can mean progesterone issues and a short luteal phase. But you wont know unless you temp.
  • Hi...I have a similar situation. I have an almost 2 year old and with him, I got pregnant after about 4 months of trying. My husband and I started trying for #2 in June and then all of a sudden my cycle started getting very wacky. I was using OPKs and I would get several positives several days apart. Very odd. And my cycle kept getting shorter and shorter, going from 30 days to 23 days, with spotting begining at about 8 dpo. I started charting, using FF, which has helped me better understand where I am in my cycle. My OB also gave me Progesterone (5mg) to take on CD 15. I used that in Aug  and Sept, but that only seemed to mess with my cycle bringing on my AF.  In Oct, I had an odd chemical pregnancy (I say odd, because it showed up very late, after many neg tests, with 3 days of heavy dark brown mucus). I had a BFP one night, and by the next morn it was BFN with a major temp dip. Tried again in Nov, with no luck. Started taking Clomid 50 mg in December. Turns out I O'ed later than I thought (cd 20 when I thought it was cd 16) so we missed our true window because we stopped having sex at cd17. Now I'm on my second cycle of Clomif 50 mg and doing acupuncture. And banging it out like crazy.   All in all, hope you have a much easier time with #2 than I am having and I'd def suggest temping. It's incredibly helpful. Sending lots of good vibes your way.

And sorry for spilling out my own rollercoaster on your post, it was just therapeutic for me to get it all offmy chest!!

Why are you on Clomid? And while on Clomid, you shouldn't question when you ovulate because your doctor should be monitoring you with ultrasounds.

Oh FFS.  This is yet another example of why OBs shouldn't be allowed to do anything related to fertility drugs!

Your Dr gave you a drug to produce a hormone you need AFTER you ovulate BEFORE YOU EVEN OVULATED!  Progesterone on CD 15 when you O on CD 20 and shouldn't even start taking it until CD 23.

  • I only took Progesterone in Aug + Sept. I haven't taken it since.

And my doctor, who is highly awarded and always rated  one of the top OBs in New Jersey, prescribed me Clomid 50 mg days 5-9 because he thinks need a stronger ovulation, due to the spotting at 8 DP. He said that he could do the ultrasounds for monitoring, but that it wouldn't actually change any treatment at this point.

That's awesome you have such a great OB.  But the fact is, OBs are expects in caring for you AFTER you get pregnant....not at GETTING you pregnant.  You've already proven this point.  You "high awarded top rated doctor" had you taking a medicine at the wrong time.  Had you been monitored, that would have been caught.

Not monitoring is ridiculous.  It would very much change treatment.  Why would you continue taking a med if your lining is too thin?  Or gives you cysts?  Or overstims you?  But, you've never know any of that if you aren't being monitored.

    Good luck to you.

I agree.  Your highly rated OB was giving you progesterone before you had ovulated if you started taking it on CD15.

Add that to you and your H missing your fertile window b/c you thought you were ovulating around CD14 instead of 20 and I'm really confused as to why you are on fertility meds when you haven't hit your fertile window yet, based on what you've written.

OP - I agree with Happily's advice. Good luck.
