Re: *~*Sleep Training Check In*~*

  • As you can see below, my almost 5 month old is clearly not ready to sleep train. Eye roll...

    1) Day number/Start date

    Day 4 (7:30pm-7:15am)

    2) Length of time crying before LO fell asleep

    None! (Gasp!)

    3) Any wakeups

Two, and I fed her for both!

    4) Dreamfeed/regular feeding

    Yes, 3:30 & 6:15.

    5) What you did to stay busy and not cry

    No tears.... :-)

    6) Any challenges/questions/concerns

    None.

    7) Progress Update/Successes

Stuff I've noticed in the last four days of sleep training: She sleeps deeper (I can go into her room and into her dresser and she doesn't wake up); I also don't need to tip toe around the house in fear of waking her up; She's sleeping better now and as a result she is MUCH happier and less fussy; She loves her night time routine and when I put her down last night she simply turned her head, and closed her eyes, and she didn't have any late night random wake ups until she was hungry at 3am. I am thrilled and don't regret our decision to do this. I also dont think less of anyone who chooses not to do it. You, as the parent, get to make decisions about your child that are best for your child! Simple.

  • 1) Day number/Start date:  Jan 9th

    2) Length of time crying before LO fell asleep:  None, asleep within a minute of being in her crib.

    3) Any wakeups:  Two.  One at 10:45 (did a 5 minute check) and she cried for a few minutes and went back to sleep.  Second one at 1:30 at which time she was fed.

    4) Dreamfeed/regular feeding:  Regular, 1:30 am

    5) What you did to stay busy and not cry:  No crying at all.  No need to stay busy, she did great.  We watched Alcatraz on DVR!

    6) Any challenges/questions/concerns:  Trying to determine if it's me or DH that goes in for the checks.  I vote DH because I am the one getting up for the night feeding.

    7) Progress Update/Successes:  No matter what time we put her to bed at night, whether it's 7 pm, 7:30 pm... She is up at 5:30 am.  So as much as I hate the wake up time I am grateful that she is a much better sleeper.  We've been at this for almost three weeks and from day 3 it was clearly the right choice for Emily and for our family.   She is even a better napper.... no more 45 minute intruder at my house.  She will take two sold 1.5-2 hour naps every day.  I wish it was broken up into three smaller ones but I will chose my battles and be happy with what we have.

  • My first check-in!

    1) Day number/Start date -Started 1/24

    2) Length of time crying before LO fell asleep - zero

    3) Any wakeups - Put her to bed close to 8pm. Up at 10:45pm, 1:10am, 5:15am, all to eat

    4) Dreamfeed/regular feeding - Regular, I guess?

    5) What you did to stay busy and not cry - Didn't need to but went to bed soon after I put her down

    6) Any challenges/questions/concerns - Just not sure if DD needs to be waking 3x a night to eat. She eats for about 10-15 miuntes each time, guzzles it down and then pretty much falls asleep on my breast. (I EBF). Last week, before sleep training, we had 2 out of the ordinary days where she slept for 7 hours before getting up around 3am to eat. Then we were back to the every hour wakings. Just not sure if I'm helping her cement a habit where she wakes every 2-3 hours to eat, even at night. Any insights?

    7) Progress Update/Successes- DD no longer wakes randomly crying 1,2,3 hours after eating. We also don't do paci replace anymore- we put her down with it and once it falls out, it's out. I think she's learned to put herself back to sleep without it. Now, if only she'd do that with naps...working on that now.

  • Pantone, I'm not sure she NEEDS to eat three times a night (I've heard they do not by 4 mos), but that would depend on if she's at a healthy weight (not under weight), if shes taking in enough calories during the day, and what you and your Pedi decide. Good luck!

  • I'm checking in to say that I'm starting tonight. For a few weeks DD was doing great with goin to sleep when I put her down. Now she's back to fighting sleep like no other. It took nearly 3 hours to get her to go to sleep last night. It took more than an hour toget her down for a nap today. Last night she woke up at 10:30 2:30 and 5:00. Then she slept from 5 to 10:30. Her sleep pattern is so messed up so I think I'm gonna start tonight. I'm definitely scared. I hope she has great progress like you ladies. I'm mainly afraid because she's still swaddled with a paci.  I'm afraid she'll never sleep without them.
  • Hey Ladies! I'm a lurker coming out of hiding. I'm really working hard on getting DS to sleep better this week while DH is away on business and I can totally use the support!

    1. Started in earnest 1/25

    2. last night, none! (The night before was another story entirely...but I won't go there.)

    3. 2am, 5:30.

    4. Fed him at 2 and 5:30, then he was in bed with me while I snoozed and he snacked a lil more(I EBF).

    5. No tears

    6. How many naps and how long for your LOs? DS usually has one morning and one afternoon nap, each about 2hrs long.

    7. I have noticed that DS is starting to get the hang of our bedtime routine. The past few nights he would fuss for 10-15min before settling down, and he would wake like every 2.5hrs, so I think last night was a huge success!

Thanks JK. We've gotten over the waking-just-to-wake stage and now I just don't know if I should start trying to help her phase out the 1st feed b/c I cluster feed before she goes to bed. My pedi is on board for us sleep training and says she since she's shown she can do one feeding a night, she can probably do that for the next few months until she grows out of it. I just can't tell what she is eating during the day, that is what frustrates me about EBF. We def. have times where she pops off after just a few minutes b.c she wants to see what is going on around her. Her height and weight are great...I think I may give it a few more days to see if this is just a phase.

  • We were planning on starting last night. But, with J still fighting this cold, we're going to hold off. I talked to the ped about it again and she supports our plan. (that's more for the looky-loos peeking into our board.) Big Smile
