Happy Bellies Organic Oatmeal LIP

Has anyone used this? I have been planning on either starting w/ oatmeal or avacado for P. I have been leaning more towards avacado because I've read the cereal has little to no nutritional value but then I found this brand at Target and it is fortified w/ a bunch of vitamins and DHA. Just wondering if anyone has used it and what their experience was like...?

Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Anniversary

Re: Happy Bellies Organic Oatmeal LIP

  • I think it's just the white rice cereal that's really a bust. Everything else has oats and grains and such, We do the oatmeal from BeechNut, and DS loves it. It has some protein and fiber and such in it, so it works for me. You really dont' have to do a cereal, though. I liked using it to introduce new foods, because it's bland enough to cut the tart or sweetness a bit.

  • Our pediatrician told us we could completely skip cereal but we did use homemade oatmeal cereal for a couple days first. You can buy regular Quaker Oats (don't buy instant) and pulse them in a food processor to make it into a powder. My goal is to serve LO real food that he will continue to eat as he grows so I figured since we eat oatmeal it only made sense to give it to him as well. He loves oatmeal mixed with fruit for breakfast!

  • PP....once you pulsed the oatmeal, how did you "cook" it? Just use hot water or do you microwave it? I love the idea of using regular oatmeal!
  • We cook it on the stove and mix 1 Tablespoon of oatmeal with 1/4 cup water. Since it is just a small amount it cooks very quickly-just a couple minutes until it's done. Just add more water if you need it to be thinner.

  • We have not tried oatmeal, but did try brown rice cereal.  It didn't work for us.  It caused bad constipation.  I might try oatmeal after we finish our box of white rice cereal.   Perhaps that would be milder on DS's stomach.

I  also found that  DS does sleep better when he eats cereals for dinner.  This is just my experience.

    This.

DD only wakes up once at night, and wakes up happier for the day after a big "dinner".

I mix a tablespoon of oatmeal, with a 1/2 oz of milk, and a 1/2 container of veggies. She gobbles it up and sleeps so good.
