Feeding schedule- BFing mommas

I was just wondering how often you are feeding your LOs now.  We had lots of issues with day/night confusion and her eating every 2 hours at night so I moved to  always feeding her every 2 hours during the day to try to cut back on night eating and I'm still feeding her that often which I think is a lot for a baby also eating solids.

My big problem is that I've never been able to distinguish between her cries.  I have no idea what is a hungry cry vs a bored cry vs a tired cry.  My default was just to always offer her the boob so just going "on demand" doesn't really help me much.  I don't know if she's really asking to eat as often as I think or if she's just eating because well, why not and really could go longer intervals.

Re: Feeding schedule- BFing mommas

  • I still make it a point to feed her every 3 hours.

  • I am still feeeding her on demand for the most part, every 2 1/2 - 3 hours. I've only tried to cut back at night because she uses nursing to soothe her back to sleep rather than actually eating (she has never STTN). Honestly, I do think she sometimes nurses b/c she is bored or just likes the comfort of it, but I don't mind...keeps the supply up!

  • Every 2-3 hours during the day. It ensures she gets enough calories through milk.

  • We just switched to every four hours during the day. I also let her nurse on demand on days I'm home with her all day, but she only really eats (vs comfort nursing) at those four-hour intervals.

  • I'm like you.  I started feeding her every 2 hours because she was having issues gaining weight and I just never stopped.  She doesn't really give hungry cues and if I'm out or she takes a long nap she can definitely go longer, so I just go with it.  I figure she'll let me know if she doesn't want to eat.

I'll probably wait until we're past a year to cut out sessions, or at least wait until she "demands" it at that point.

  • i'm still 'on demand' day and night.  sometimes she goes three hours between feedings during the day.  other times she nurses more often.  at night it's every 2-3 hours.

  • Every 3-4 hours, typically right around 3.5. I am thinking of starting with 3 more consistently, though, because he has just started STTN and I want to make sure he gets enough food in him (weight gain has been slow as it is), plus I want to protect my supply. He never "asks" to eat until the 4 hour mark, but I'll just offer it sooner.

This is our situation as well.  DS and while DS is also eating solids, I don't think that a) he is getting THAT much and b) he is growing/moving more so it only makes sense to me that he needs more calories.

  • She BFs 4 or 5 times a day.

8AM when she wakes up for the day

11:30-12 when she wakes up from 1st nap

3:30-4 when she wakes up from 2nd nap

~6 I give her a snack if she's being fussier than usual.. she usually has little interest in nursing though

8- MH gives her a bottle before she goes to sleep.

Some nights she will wake up in the early morning between 430 and 630 and I will nurse her and then she goes right back down.  This happens maybe 3 times a week.

  • He eats on demand on the weekends which tends to be at least every 2 hours (sometimes even more frequent) during the day and usually once at night. During the week at daycare, he gets a 4 oz bottle every 2 hours. I have been noticing that the other kids (most of them a little older than LO) get bigger bottles at daycare, as do many of the June Mom's babies from what I have read. I asked some of the teachers at daycare if they think I should switch to bigger bottles, less frequently. They said every baby is different and said the current set up is working well for LO. They don't think he would be happy waiting longer between bottles. So we are sticking with every 2hours.
  • DS eats every 4 hours. He's got it down pretty well.

  • If she's at daycare, I feed her in the morning before we leave, she takes 4 bottles while there, then I feed her around 7. She is often up once at night to eat, also.

When we're home, she eats when she wakes up in the morning, after her morning nap, then probably about 2-3 other feedings before bedtime at night (not always regularly scheduled).

  • DD has been eating a lot more frequently during the day for the past week now that she's not eating during the night very often all of the sudden; she's been sleeping until around 5 am before she eats and then goes back to sleep until around 6:30 am). She eats when she wakes up in the morning, before naps, after naps, before bedtime, and sometimes snacks in addition to all of that! :)

She's only eating solids once a day and it's not very much at all - maybe 1-2 ounces total. She's stayed in the 70th percentile for weight and 95th percentile for height, so the pediatrician isn't concerned at all.

  • I'm not SAH, so My through the week schedule probably wouldn't apply, but when I'm home and on weekends, C goes about 4 hours, sometimes closer to 5. He never really "demands" it. The child only cries when he's tired and wants to be held.

If we're just lazing around the house, though, I'll do 3 just because I'm bored or want a break from cleaning house. He doesn't require it, though. And he doesn't eat at all between 8:30pm- 4 or 5am

I was pretty much going to post exactly this. Sometimes he goes longer than 2 hrs if we're out and he's distracted, but when we,re home it's pretty frequent.

  • We're still on demand in theory...I would never let her go hungry...but in practice she has settled herself into a really predictable schedule. We nurse first thing in the morning, twice during the day (or 2 bottles while i'm at work), and then right before bed.

This is us exactly...I let him go 4.5 the other day (bad momma!) and he was nuts.  he won't eat too much if its under 3 hours...more so just snacks
