December 2011 Moms

I Quit my Job.

And it feels amazing. I go back Mon from maternity leave and we've been struggling to find a daycare/nanny that we love and it was eating away at me. I realized I wasn't going to be happy with her being away from us all day and neither was DH. I struggled with the decision because I'm a very motivated & career oriented person and I really do love working. I never would have considered quitting prior to having baby but everything changed when she came into the picture. It was either 1) be happy that I'm working & unhappy away from her or 2) be unhappy that I'm not working & be happy that I'm with her...

A lot went into the decision other than just being with her but ultimately it came down to the fact that we won't get this time back. Things will be tight on just his income but I am excited that I don't have to leave her full time. I go back to work Mon for awhile in order to transition out and should be done by mid-march.

I have a feeling I am going to need to find a new nerdy hobby though to keep me working on something. Not sure I'm going to know what to do with myself all day without crunching numbers....

  • Good for you! Making a decision like that is tough! You will always find a job but never get this time back-like you said! Enjoy your time with her!

  • That's exactly the reasoning I gave my boss when I quit. My office will always be there. My daughter will only be this big once.

  • I really wish I could have written this post Crying

I never thought I would want to be a SAHM either, but now I would love nothing more than to be able to do just that.  Unfortunately, there is absolutely no way we could afford for me to do so without using credit cards, so back to work full time for me it is.  I am truly happy for you though!  I would love to be able to say that.

  • I look at it this way...my parents are in their 60s and still working. I have a long lifetime of work ahead of me, but my baby is going to grow up in the blink of an eye.

Ugh, that made me sad to write that.

I will be quitting my job in May after going back for a few weeks to finish my teaching contract.

  • Glad you made a decision you are happy with.  It was tough for me to let go of my job but in the end I wouldn't be happy if I was away from LO all day.  And if you get bored we can start a mom's group or something!
