Trouble TTC

Follow up w/RE..what do you think?

Ok so wehave been seeing RE since June, and up until this point haven't had any issues with them. As you can see in my siggy we are MFI, DH has seen a Uro and is on Clomid, his 3rd month will be next month. So needless to say our IUI's havent been successful(obviously) bc of DH post wash numbers..the highest he had was 2 million. So I asked to  meet with RE since we haven't seen him personally for 4 months.

I wanted to know his thoughts on everything and if he thinks switching to injectables would benefit us. We wait for 45 min..not bad but the best part was our appt with him lasted less then 5 minutes.

I am seriously soo annoyed/pissed/dissapointed in my RE. He didnt even look at our chart before we walked in cuz he's going on about how injectables increases chances for multiples and how maybe I should have a lacroscopy to see why I'm not getting pg. I said well dont you think that with our MFI that would be the reason....Oh now he decideds to open our file and said, yes I think you are right that would be the reason...wow..why did I just pay you to tell me what I already knew.

So I asked what he think we should do ( I know we are still waiting on DH numbers to improve so hopefully we will know more next month) He said I'll leave it up to you jut let me know if you want to stay on Femara or do injectables. (Um isnt this his job to know whats best) So then I brought up IVF..he said that will be about 10k and still only gives you 40% chance and dismisses it, like we what can't afford it? It isn't worth it? IDK

So then he stands up and says if you have any questions call me and make sure to call ahead if you want to change your meds...I am seriously in disbelief that this juat happened..well I should say nothing happened in under 5 min. I am soooo mad at myself for not aksing more or sticking up and saying something..Like hello I didnt just pay you $300 for a 2 min visit and the info you gave me could have been told over the phone..WTF?

So if you are still with me thank you...my question is who thinks it's worth it to switch to injectables. I respond well with Femara..1-2 follies and always great lining...either will be covered by insurance. I know you guys aren't doctors, but apparently mine doesn't care...OPINIONS PLEASE! Thanks girls..and hope everything one has a great weekend!

Re: Follow up w/RE..what do you think?

  • Do you have DX? If it's just your DH I would stick with the Femara and consider an IUI or something. I guess I'm still a new, but I don't know what injectables are going to do if it's only your DH with a DX.

Honestly, I would find a new RE if possible. Clearly they aren't spending the time with you and giving you the information and expertise that you paid for and deserve. GL!!!

ETA: Just saw your siggy...sorry! If you respond well to Femara, I'd stick with that for awhile and search out a new RE.

Up until this point I've liked RE and he already is my 2nd opinion;..UGH and what the nurse said is w/injectables you usually get more follies, which are more targets for the sperm we do have..Idk what to do

Find someone else that will actually converse with you and give professional opinions, rather than someone who is mery going to go along with whatever you ask for. You didn't go to med school, the RE did. He shouldn't be so passive.

  • It really sucks you're having to go through this.  I would definitely look for a new RE.  You  need someone who will listen to you and answer your questions.  While you may be a ways off from IVF, he shouldn't dismiss your questions like that.

  • I don't know if our MFI situations are completely different, but my RE thinks that we should go straight to IVF. She didn't force her opinion on us and actually suggested IUI first. Basically we will do a max of 3 Clomid + IUIs and then move to IVF.

It was up to us whether we wanted to do 0-3 IUIs (8% chance each), but we are only sticking with Clomid. She said that cost wise, there's no point in doing an injectable cycle IUI because that's like $3k. IVF would give us much better odds (50%) and only costs 4 times as much.

Im shocked that your RE dismissed your interest in IVF. Maybe he was trying to get the most out of your insurance coverage? The way you described the appt is how it is when we go to the MFI uro. REs should not be that way. I would find a new one if possible.

  • I would be beyond pissed also especially being OOP.  In my opinion with a SA that low, I don't think injections would be your best option.  With being OOP, I would save up for IVF.  Although, I would definitely switch RE's that will give you the support, respect and better odds.  40% chance on IVF is kind of low and you can probably find an RE that will give you better odds.  I am so sorry you wasted your time and money with your last appointment.
