leaking amnio fluid slowly?

Anyone know how much fluid is enough to be concerned? Today I noticed my panties were almost drenched mid-day, but smelled like I could possibly be leaking urine (TMI! SORRY!). But I've been leaking a small bit of fluid for most of the evening that is more sweet smelling, but it hasn't been a ton. Not sure if its just discharge, or possibly amnio fluid. Getting kinda worried because its not a lot, but definitely feels more constant that usual. Anyone have some experience with this?

PS- I have called the on-call doc and she said to put a pad on for an hour and see if its wet. Its been 20 mintues and its already slightly wet, but really don't know how much is enough to be concerned. HELP!

Here we go - TMI heading your way - 2 weeks ago, I was literally soaking underwear, putting a new pair on, soaking, putting a new pair on. Didn't smell like urine (lucky) so I eventually called my Dr. They had me go to L&D, did some tests, took an U/S to measure fluids and everything was fine. It was literally pee. Awesome! So, on top of the gas, I now need Depends (not really, but I need to make a joke or I'll go crazy). Hope that can help at all.

Earlier this week I was having this problem. My underwear were literally soaking wet. I finally called the Dr. and went in because I was also concerned I could be leaking fluid. It didn't seem possible for discharge to make my underwear so wet. She did an exam, checked everything and concluded it was not fluid but normal discharge/sweat, and maybe some urine.

I would see the Dr. just to be safe but its possible everything is fine.

It is possible, but unlikely. Go in if you're super worried, and they should be able to tell you with a simple swab tests. There are also these pads you can get that change color in the presence of amniotic fluid.

I thought I was leaking with DS, but after being tested it turned out that I was just peeing myself. That's most likely what you're experiencing too, but it never hurts to call your doc and see if they want to test you. On the off chance it is amniotic fluid, they definitely need to be monitoring you.

Not to freak you out, but, I would definitely get this checked out. I had about 2 weeks of damp panties, that I noticed smelled almost kind of sweet, but thought that it was the normal increased discharge. I was having a fetal echocardiogram ultrasound done (not related to this) and they saw that my fluid was really low. They sent me to triage, did the swab tests (which were negative), and admitted me to the hospital because the fluid was so low. I've been here in the hospital for the last 16 days. My fluid has increased (although not to normal levels), and I haven't had any leaking while here. They can't determine if I had a tear that healed over itself (and we're waiting for baby to pee to refill the amniotic fluid tank) or if there might be something wrong with the baby's kidney's, since on the ultrasounds the baby's kidney's and bladder are visualized and seem to be working.

If you soak through the pantyliner (even in less than 1 hour), I would definitely call your doc back (who cares if it is late) and see if they want you to go to the hospital to get checked out.

I really hope that it is nothing more than what some of the other PPs said was literally just pee. GL! Keep us posted.

I had some leakage recently that turned out to be urine when I got it checked out - it wasn't sweet smelling but didn't smell like normal urine. From what I have read, when amnio fluid leaks, it is sweet smelling....so if that's what you're having, I would get it checked out asap. Best wishes!

Not to scare you... But I have been sitting the hospital since Tuesday because of what was a "small leak". Turned out that my membranes ruptured. You really should insist on being seen. If it is not urine, you are putting both yourself and your baby in danger.

You can never be too safe... definitely call the doctor if it is still happening. Trust your intuition. GL!! Make sure you keep us updated!
