Breastfeeding

What did u do to prepare for #2?

I don't feel like I need to take another BF class like I did for DS but at the same time I feel like I've forgotten everything about latching and BFing in general!  I nursed DS for 11 mos! I feel like something will come back to me....but I feel like I'm just as nervous this go around as the first time!  I just don't remember all of the positions or the whole latching properly with the nose and chin in a certain spot.....it's overwhelming. Did this happen to anyone else? How I'd everything work out? Is it like riding a bike? ;)

Re: What did u do to prepare for #2?

  • For me it was like riding a bike, only a new and improved bike!  I was worried that I wouldn't really remember how to do it properly but it all came back as soon as I put that baby to the breast.  Thankfully my second was also much better at nursing from the get-go than my first so it's been a breeze compared to the first time around.  The nurses and the lactation consultants can help you at the hospital if you have questions.

  • I'm feeling the exact opposite way, and I am so glad. I am looking forward to nursing this lo so much. I was scared out of my mind with my last baby since my first was ff. I am just hoping that all goes well and this baby is as good at it as my last. But this could be because it will only have been 6 months since I weaned ds #2 when #3 is born. :)

  • It was easy! And so much more pleasant...only DS2 hwd to learn, not both of us. If you're worried, maybe read some breastfeeding books, or meet with an LC beforehand.

  • I spent the evening reviewing "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" ... I also bought another nipple shield just in case ;)

I know I have huge boobs, but hopefully DS#2 will latch right away because he will be full term + a week! DS#1 was induced at 37 weeks, was only 5lbs, and his poor little mouth couldn't fit my huge tatas...

  • Dont stress yourself mama it will all come back. If you feelo the need you can always see the lc at the hospital.

  • I was nervous too and even unsure of my technique right after the birth... But the hospital had plenty if lactation nurses on staff and a lot of the regular nurses were helpful too. By the time we left the hospital, I felt confident and she's 11.5 weeks now and BF is great.

I wouldn't worry, just make sure to ask a lot of questions and get hands on help at the hospital. Ours even did a postpartum visit 2 days later with a lactation nurse. That was great too...

  • My 2nd one was a piece of cake but I had just finished up nursing big bother. I am feeling a little worried this time with the bigger age gap. I just feel like we are out of the baby stage more this time then last. However, I'm sure it will come back! I never really thought too much about nursing before I knew I would, I just never knew how much I'd love it! I love that time with the baby that no one else has! I can't wait!

    Don't worry! You'll do fine!
