Play kitchen recs?

W really likes playing with kitchen sets. He and DD have one at their grandparents house that he LOVES. So I really want one for home.

We do have one here, but he doesn't play with it as much, I think because there isn't a fridge or cabinets/anything to open. This is the one we currently have:

Not really much of a kitchen.

Any suggestions? TIA :)

  • We have the melissa and doug corner kitchen. DS loves it and it works since we have limited space.

DS loves it.  His cousin has the same one and they played with it for hours.  We gave it to him for Christmas and he wouldn't bother with any other gifts for 2 hours.  It comes with cups, pots and pans and other kitchen objects. And it was super cheap.  We found it for 30 bucks.

i love that wooden BJs one. is it pretty sturdy too? DD is pretty tough on toys so we usually go for wooden ones. she slammed the cabinet on the melissa and doug one at the toy store and broke the hook, annnd bent the plastic on a cheaper one..i'm hoping we can find something that withstands her tough play.

  • DS has the Red Retro Kitchen and plays with it everyday.  It took about 1.5 hours for DH to put it together, but it was super easy just a lot.

I just realized this is the same one I like! Its on the toysrus website for $129.

Has decent reviews. People are complaining that it was a PITA to put together.

i'm a little concerned because of the reviews about it not being sturdy enough..but then others say its super sturdy. i wonder if that has to do with poor assembly. i feel like when stuff is a PITA to put together we all get lazy and start cutting corners...maybe its ok if its put together right? it would be sweet. because it's so cute with that laundry station!!

  • We also have the little tikes wood kitchen and laundry center.

It is VERY sturdy...actually a little too much. DD has to pull pretty hard to get the fridge to open or the play oven. She loves the laundry center and how it has a small timer that makes a "ding" when it's done.

Ours is on carpet and we plan to bolt it to the wall because she has to pull pretty hard to open everything. We asked for wood play-food for birthday and christmas and it is a huge hit for both kids.

Also my DH has an advanced degree in math and it took him 2 hours to put it together. In his defense they forgot some screws so he had to run to Lowes to get the right size. He thought it would only take 30 min from start to finish but as he found out "there are no small jobs"
