We got our scan results back and couldn?t be happier! Based on my age prior to having the testing done, my odds of having a baby with Downs was 1:490 and with Trisomy 18 was 1:1,700. The results indicate that both of these have significantly decreased! My odds are now 1:10,000 for each! What a fantastic way to start the weekend!

Trisomy 18 can occur when there is extra genetic material at the 18th chromosome. Some people may refer to it as Edwards Syndrome. The complications associated with this include kidney malformations, heart defects, etc. Sadly, the expected life span of a child with this is only 5-15 days and that is if he or she makes it to full term.
