Maternity or regular panties?

For those who've been there, help me out, please. Am I missing out on something awesome by not buying specific maternity panties? Or am I ok with getting more of my regulars in the next size up? Luckily, I did this on accident a few months ago and the panties that were once too big now fit pretty well, but I don't know how well they'll fit as my belly, hips and butt continue to grow. Either way, I need something new as most of my regular panties are quickly becoming thongs Crying. My regulars are really comfortable, all cotton, full-butt, low-rise with no lines or fat-slicing stringy bits, but if maternity panties are where it's at, then I'll grab some of those instead.

  • I'd like to know too!

I was poking around on the net yesterday, and from what I read, most women say it's not worth the extra money....this being said, my ass and hips have grown too, and I need to buy me some more Big Smile

  • This is my third child and I have never had maternity ones. With my son I wore the size up, with my daughter I didn't even have to change sizes because I carried her higher. I was perfectly comfortable both times.

  • Love my maternity panties.  It was the first thing I pulled out of my tub of maternity clothes.

  • With my first pregnancy I just got a bigger size in normal panties and plan to do the same this time around once I need to. I see no point in maternity ones.

  • MissMusic, I also saw them at Motherhood, but I'm pretty sure they're also at Target a few other places.

Thanks for all the advice, ladies! So it seems to just depend on how high I'm carrying and not so much on my gigantor hips and ass? I think I'm pretty high, so far. Burrito's movements always seems to be just an inch or two below my belly button, either to one side or the other. But I imagine that can change as I get bigger.

  • I've been wearing my for a week now and I really like them. My regular ones were starting to dig into my belly, so I decided to try some out. The best thing about them, I've had 0 weggies this whole week. For me that's amazing! That alone makes them worth it in my book.

  • Like some others I just sized up what I usually wear.  For what it's worth, I carried very, very low both times and my underwear stayed up just fine.  They're a little stretched around the waist now but they'll fit well again once this bump starts to grow.  Buying maternity underwear has never crossed my mind.

  • With my first pregnancy I stuck with regular underwear in a size up.  I wore mostly boy shorts or hipsters and never had a problem with them.

  • My regular panties are already creeping down in the back sometimes, so I've switched to my pg ones. I also have some "granny" panties I got for post-pg that just are not working well, I need to get more of the pg ones.

This is #2 for me, so I'm much bigger than I was at this stage last time.

  • You might want them later, but probably don't need them yet. I got some from Old Navy last time later in pregnancy and when I put them on I couldn't believe I had denied myself that comfort for so long! The ones I have now are just falling off of me though. Later, when the belly is quite big, will be a different story.

  • I can't wear my normal bikini underwear anymore.  I must be carrying low b/c they cut right into the bottom of my bump.  I went to Target and got some cheap packaged fruit of the loom tie dye looking string bikinis and they are heaven b/c they are very low rise and sit right below my bump.  I also bought some lace thongs that were on clearance.  The lace top stretches really nice and do not dig no matter how high they are.

  • I've been wearing the VS Lacies/ Cossabella panties. They're one size, and have been stretching and adapting really well as my twin bump has been rapidly expanding.

I have no plan whatsoever to buy these, they are ugly and I just cant do that to my fiance.  I have to save the one little bit of sexy that I have left at this point for him.

The underwear I buy I think will be fine anyways, they are all thongs, lace waistband so they dont dig!, and they are low rise in the front so I dont see my belly becomming an issue.  If I do have any problems I will figure it out but I just dont intend on spending the money on these...

yep same here. I wear the thongs with the lace waistband and they are still so comfortable. I just bought some that were a size up and they should last me awhile. I have always only worn thongs since I was a teenager and hate the full bottom ones. Maybe I'll have to give in down the road and buy some maternity ones but I hope I won't have to.

  • First time around, I bought maternity panties. I followed the guide on the back of the package, they ended up being huge on me. So, I only wore them to bed.

  • I love lacy waist bands since they don't cut in, but couldn't imagine wearing thongs right now. I've only worn them in the past when you can see panty lines and my shirt wasn't long enough to cover them or for other *ahem* special occasions. I have yet to find some that are comfortable enough to wear all day long and frankly, the thought of a thong on all day long grosses me out a little bit. My panties are cute, but they are full-butt, thankyouverymuch! Just call me Aunt Prudey.

  • With DD i would have laughed at you if you mentioned wasting money on maternity panies. This time around my normal undies were rubbing me in my swollen lady bits and I have gladly spent the money on them this time!

  • I've been starting to think about this myself . . . I recently got my regular undies in a larger size, but I'm already seeing that I'm going to need something else soon.  I think I'm going to just buy the maternity undies.  I've seen some on the Motherhood website that don't look bad.

This!  Or maternity panties--not the scary, over-the-belly grannies, but the low-rise ones.  They're cut just a little different from regular undies, and IMO, they're WAY more comfortable.

  • I went to Target last time and just bought a size up from my normal undies.  I was able to wear them all 9 months.  I think they were Xhileration bikini undies?

I am the same way! I hate thongs and only wear them when it would be socially unacceptable not to (visable pantyline times) or "special occasions". My best friend only wears thongs and I have no idea how she does it.

  • I bought maternity panties for my first pregnancy and they were low cut, so I could have  just gotten away with buying low cut panties in a (much)bigger size than I usually wear. I had a c-section and bought some big cotton granny panties for afterwards so the panties didn't irritate my incision.
