Thank You card turnaround time

Just out of curiosity - what do you consider to be the socially acceptable time-period for getting your Thank You cards out?

Re: Thank You card turnaround time

  • I was just thinking that if I get them out at all it is a good day!  My last shower was a week ago and I haven't started thank you's yet...hopefully this weekend.  I think within a week or two is about as late as I would go but if LO comes early they are going to wait!

  • I try to get mine out within 2 weeks of the event. If I wait any longer I'm afraid I would forget to do them or get lazy.
  • If it's a gift I received in the mail or in person (but not at a shower), I try to do them within a week, 2 weeks tops.  For my shower, there were about 50 people in attendance so I slacked a little and it took me 3 weeks.

ETA: For the shower, I felt like the guests would understand since they knew there were so many folks in attendance.

  • crap- i *will* finish this weekend (3 weeks after event).

  • I think 1-2 weeks, though it took me a bit longer to get them out for the shower I had before Christmas. I ended up mailing those ones out about 3-4 weeks afterward, hoping everyone understood that it was a busy time.

  • I got mine out within a week of shower/gift receipt, but I'm anal like that. Plus, all gifts ended up on my dining room table, and I needed that table for other things, but I didn't allow myself to move the gifts until the notes were written. Otherwise, it would have taken me half of forever to get them done.
  • I try to get them out within two weeks, as well.

  • My shower was Saturday and I will have them in the mail this weekend.  Very good for me (our wedding thank you took months!! Embarrassed)!  Not sure what's socially acceptable though.

  • I had mine out within 1-2 weeks for my two larger showers.  I had about 30 people at each of those showers.  For my smaller work shower (15 people), I handed them in mailboxes the next day.  People don't realize how much gift givers notice the etiquette of timeliness.  Getting them out at all is good too. My mom went to a neighbors daughter's shower.  The girl was in her early twenties.  My mom gave a $60.00 dollar gift and never received any thank you note.  She won't be giving again.  Not that the amount of the gift should matter, but it is rude not to send thank you note.  If someone spent 5.00 towards a gift, guess what, they still got a thank you from me.  People are more likely to feel good about giving if you thank them promptly and properly.
  • Its been about a month since my shower and i have yet to even buy the cards!! I keep forgetting (darn pregnancy brain).  I must do this this weekend...

  • I think 2 weeks is max unless of course baby comes early!  But I wrote mine the night of my shower, I put all the stuff on my counter and wrote thank you notes as I put the stuff away, washed the items, etc.  I definitely notice when people do not write thank-yous and I find it incredibly rude.  If I take my time to come to your event (shower, wedding, whatever) and bring a gift, then I think you should take the time to write a thank-you.

If someone's baby came early then of course that would be different and I would completely understand, but I think taking a month is a bit ridiculous but that's just my opinion.  You can write them while sitting down on the couch watching tv really, so it isn't like it takes a lot of effort.

  • I just finished my last TY card from my shower on Sunday. We have another shower tomorrow, so I was determined to finish them before our second shower so that I didn't overwhelm myself. The shower on Sunday was for our church, so it was pretty big and I had over 50 TY cards to write... I'm pretty proud of myself for getting them done in under a week!
