I was registering last weekend and realized that I know nothing about breast pumps. I looked at the reviews online and it seemed like only the really expensive ones got good reviews. Can anyone recommend their breast pump?
I used the Medela Pump In Style Advanced. I was pricey, but worth it. For how much I pumped, I didn't want to get a so-so one that was going to crap-out on me. I never had any problems with mine and will be able to use it again the next time around.
I highly recommend renting a hospital grade pump with multiples. That way you can see how things go and if you are in the situation of really needed a heavy duty pump (NICU, babies that don't latch/nurse well, etc) you have it. You can always decide to get a regular pump down the line if you don't want to rent anymore. I actually got a hospital grade pump off of ebay for about the same price you'd spend for a Medela. Hospital grade pumps are designed for multiple users so it doesn't have the ick factor of buying a used personal pump.

I rented a hospital grade pump at first, an Ameda. I had it for a month, then I bought an Ameda Purely Yours. I think it's great! Louder than the hospital pump, but it feels just as powerful to me, and it's half the price of the Medela.

I rented a hospital pump for two months and now I use the Ameda Purely Yours Ultra - I am happy with it. The hospital pump was better, but I'm not pumping as much as I was before.

I started with this one, but found that with twins having to sit down every time I wanted to pump was too restrictive. I bought the Medela freestyle and love it! (it's small/portable). You can get it for $300 online. I used the Symphony in the hospital, but it nearly killed me with the uterine contractions it caused, so I was a little scared to keep using a hospital grade pump (call me crazy...)
