Ridiculousness: The MIL edition

So I left the little bean with my MIL for 3 hours today. She had my 8y/o niece and 7y/0 nephew there today as well (teacher service day or something?).

Unsure of how long I'd be out, we had a few errands to do, I had 3 bottles prepped in the diaper bag. Filled with water to the 5oz mark, and a little snack/portion cup measured out with the right amount of powder. Dump, shake, serve - easy peasy.

Well, she apparently let my niece make Ella's bottle unsupervised. She put all 3 compartments in one bottle of water!!! When my niece brought the bottle and container back over to my MIL, she noticed that all 3 compartments were empty, and I guess put it together. Luckily, I have an "emergency stash" of the premixed stuff (only 4 oz) in the bag which she then gave her. I'm just grateful she noticed before feeding her that crazy formula ratio!!

Now, nothing happened, so despite my urge to scream and make a huge scene I'm staying calm, but tell me - WHY ON EARTH wouldn't you watch her? WHYYYYY??????

  • Yikes! But that happens when you're trying to juggle 3 kids. At least she knew about your stash and didn't accidentally feed the baby the bad bottle! My MIL is too stupid for me to leave my child alone with her. And I wish I were exaggerating. She probably would have just fed my daughter the bottle of water and forgotten the powder.

Mine too.  DH and I agree that she is not allowed to be with the children unsupervised.

Sorry you lost the formula, but usually, an 8yo is old enough to take care of stuff like that and might have just misunderstood the directions.  My nephew who is that age and my cousin's daughter who is that age mix formula for their younger siblings all the time.  It was probably just an unfamiliar task for her.

  • I understand! My MIL is probably going to have to watch our LO some while I am doing my observations (10 days) in the Elementary School and I worry about her driving around with our LO. She is not a good driver and she'll have to take my 3yo niece to day care everyday and pick her up! While watching my other 3yo nephew! Can you understand my concern?? I just worry about my baby not getting the attention he needs with two three-year-old's around...
