Lighting at night to feed by?

What kind of lighting do you use?  We have been sleeping downstairs the past month with a lamp on in the other room...just enough to see by.  Not sure how I am going to breastfeed without stimulating her too much) when we move upstairs since a nightlight isn't bright enough and the hall light is too bright. I used to have a touch lamp with three settings but that's long gone and I can't find another one.  Is a 25 watt bulb too bright for baby?  I don't wanna wake her with too bright a light each time through the night....

  • I have an Itzbeen timer and I swear by it... I have used it for every single feeding and diaper change since day one and as an added bonus, it has a little light on it that is absolutely perfect for making sure she's latching at night for a second before I turn it off. Best $17 I ever spent!
  • Our Samsung video monitor has a night light feature on the camera above DS's crib.  So when I get woken up by the receiver in my bedroom, I can turn on the light via the receiver, go in by DS, nurse, go back to my bed and turn the light off.  While I'm not crazy about the monitor, the night light is my favorite feature!

  • We had a 25 watt bulb in DS's lamp and it worked well.  Just enough light for quick bum changes and nursing but not too bright.  We have since installed ceiling fans in all the bedrooms and it has a dimmer feature so I'll be using that this time.
  • Surprisingly our wipes warmer has a tiny LED "nightlight" that I use to see at night. It's just bright enough for me to see what I'm doing, but it doesn't keep my LO awake when I'm feeding/changing.

I guess the wipes warmer does double duty ;)

  • I wake up my iPad to throw just enough light on him to get the latch right.  If DH is checking his blackberry (we cosleep), I'll ask him to angle the screen our way to throw some light on the situation.

  • We sleep with the closet light on and the closet door cracked open just a bit.

  • I have an alarm clock that is ridiculously bright (for me to sleep with) but it works fine as a 'night light' in the nursery.  I can see enough to feed/change with but it doesn't seem to wake LO up.

    We do this as well

  • We crack the closet door open for light too! How funny, I thought I was weird.

  • I changed the bulb in the lamp to a red one. It gives jsut enough light but is not so bright it wakes him up.

  • Because baby is in a bassinet next to the bed I feed her in our room so DH just bought a night light to plug into the wall so I had just enough light to feed at night.

  • We moved our operation downstairs as well.

Upstairs all we have is our bed since LO doesnt like his cosleeper, his rock-n-play, his bouncer, his snug-a-bunny swing, or his crib. He slept in our arms while we were pretty much upright in bed.

So we moved downstairs where we have couches, a rocker, and hubby put a mattress in our living room too.

For lighting, we use the vent fan lights under our microwave that hangs above our stove. It provides pretty good mood lighting. Additionally, we have a bit of outdoor lighting that sneaks in through the windows. The moonlight is real nice too.

When we move back upstairs, we will likely purchase a night light of some sort.
