QOTD Friday

Happy Friday everyone!  I think a couple people have volunteered to do questions next week--or you can just jump in like I did Stick out tongue

So, today's question(s), in light of all the conversation about the work week schedule, what does your weekend look like (generally speaking...no need for a min by min breakdown)?  Do you set an alarm on the weekends? And which day do you like better: Saturday or Sunday?

Re: QOTD Friday

  • We waffle between trying to get a million things done (chores, work follow up, home financial stuff) and just trying to enjoy the down time.  We don't set an alarm on Saturday, but often do on Sunday to make sure we make it to church on time.

Typical Saturday: Lazy morning, a few chores here and there, grocery shopping, some sort of trip to the "outside" world...even if only to Costco, play time outside for the girls, movie at night after the girls go to bed.  If we do swim lessons or anything like that, it's usually on this day.

Typical Sunday: Church in the morning (Mass starts at 9:30), sometimes brunch after church, hang out at home, follow up on whatever we were doing at home on Saturday, nice dinner (I usually cook more than pasta...lol), if we've invited people over for dinner, this is usually the day we do it.

I prefer Saturday for the lack of an alarm and the fact that I still have Sunday to look forward to:)

Yep, it's a crazy life we leadSleep

  • Haha, my alarm is my LO. On weekends, though, I wake up and usually hand him off to DH and can go back to sleep until 7 or 8, or sometimes even 9.

We usually try to have one day that is very low-pressure and we can hang out at home all day in our jammies if we like. Then we do stuff on the other day.

LO is taking a Water Babies class on Sundays, so we do that. We also try to go out for lunch on the weekends.

As far as days I like better - probably Saturday, because when I go to bed there's still a day off ahead of me :-)

  • alarm? ROTFL, the kids wake up earlier on weekends than weekdays, it's like they know!!

we generally don't do much, play around the house and eat most of our meals at home (don't go out much); my parents come over almost every Sat & Sun. On Sundays, we go to Wegman's for our weekly grocery trip. I try to schedule a playdate here and there.  We try to go outside to a playground or just in front of the house for some fresh air. When there are activities, such as Festivals, Fire Dept Open Houses, etc, I try to go there with the kids.

  • saturdays i sometimes work in the morning

otherwise, we get up, make breakfast (usually pancakes), lounge around for a bit, the kids play. some mornings we will visit with MIL/FIL

tomas and DH go to TKD at 1:15, i put A down for a nap, do my menu for the following week and send DH a grocery list

he does the shopping after TKD and i take a nap while A is still sleeping

saturday afternoon/evening we visit with friends, watch a movie, go on an activity

sunday morning we usually have omelettes, then i go to bikram yoga and i am useless the rest of the day until it's time to cook (lately, i've been trying to cook for the week on sunday afternoon). sometimes we'll visit with MIL/FIL if we didn't see them on saturday

no alarms, no schedules for sunday. T says it's his favorite day of the week!

  • Weekends are for fun stuff, for the most part. I use my day off (today) to do most of the errands, grocery shopping and house cleaning. We might do a household chore here and there but generally relax and spend time with friends and family. That might explain why we have a million little things around our house that need to be fixed . . .

Either C or the dogs usually wake us up at 7:30-8ish. We drink coffee and have a leisurely breakfast and watch a little tv. We might meet our realtor to look at houses, take our dogs for a hike at my mom's house, go to a local festival or go to my dad's for dinner. If we're home, C takes a nice long nap and sometimes I do as well. During the summer, we spend a lot of weekends at the beach.  I love weekends.

I like Saturday best because DH and I can split a bottle of wine or have a cocktail after C goes to bed and not worry about getting ready for the next workday.

  • Saturday, no alarm, the LOS wake me up and I go downstairs with them and play and they help me make breakfast (Pancakes, waffles, french toast, eggs...) with all the fixins.  We wake up DH and he joins us for breakfast and then depending on the weekend, we get dressed and go to a playdate, a fair/festival or the park.  If the weather is cranky and nothing is going on, we either stay in and play or take the kids to the Landmark Mall play area.  We have lunch around noon and then quiet time, naps from 1-3.  After that we usually play in the house - this is the time DD gets to paint, play with playdough, etc.  All the messy stuff.  We usually have a nice dinner and then DH and I watch a movie after the LOs go to bed.

Sunday, no alarm, get up with the kiddos and make breakfast (same options as Sat) and then wake up DH to join us and we quickly get dressed and usually arrive late for 9am mass.  After mass, we sometimes go someplace fun to play (sometimes the nature center, sometimes the park - clearly we do not dress up for church).  If we are lazy and go to 10:45 mass, we usually go out for brunch afterwards.  Nap/quiet time from 1-3.  Afternoon is messy or outdoor play and then a nice dinner.  Sundays are kind of unique because once each month DH has a skype date with his gaming buddies and I have book club or my women's group.  On those Sundays we do the same routine but solo.  Many times the book club/women's group spouses get together with all the kids for a big playdate.

  • No alarms, but M usually wakes up by 7 am anyway.

We have relaxed mornings - coffee and light breakfast while still wearing pjs and watching TV in the living room. At some point, I usually go out for a run while DH runs an errand with the kiddo. We regroup at the house for lunch. Sometimes we have to run more errands in the afternoon, or sometimes we'll get together with friends or go to a kid-friendly activity/event. We try to take M to a playground if the weather is nice. Our activities are often weather-dependent, especially in the winter. Sometimes we go out to dinner, but not always.

I definitely prefer Saturdays. On Sundays I'm always thinking about Monday. :(

Heck no to the alarm!  I get up when DS gets up, even then, DH changes him and puts him in bed w/ me for milk and Micky Mouse Clubhouse.

I happen to love Sunday.  Saturday feels like the day to just get stuff done around the house, grocery shop etc. Sunday I do as little as possible.

  • We usually don't set an alarm on the weekends. I SAH so I don't usually set an alarm during the week either. Preschool is 3 minutes away and the kids don't have to be there until 9.

Saturday we usually have a big breakfast and try to do some sort of outing. DH usually has a project he's working on so I try to find something to keep the kids occupied while he does that. If we're going to go out to eat, we almost always go on Saturday night.

Sunday we have church at 11, we usually have a lazy morning before we go. In the afternoon I usually try to get chores done. I feel like we've been stuck in the house every weekend since August watching football. I love football but I'm looking forward to being able to get out and do stuff after next weekend.

    Word.

We try to have one productive day and one unproductive day.  Sometimes it's half and half (like a productive morning then means an unproductive afternoon).

Productive Day:  weekly laundry, weekly trip to Giant, every other week trip to BJ's, the inevitable small house project (usually in DH's job description - repair something, build something, replace something).

Unproductive Day:  playground, play date, kids birthday parties, dinner with my parents or my brother/SIL/niece, festival/street fair/pumpkin patch/etc., rare: get a babysitter for date night.

Both Days:  DH is the cook, so he tries new/complicated recipes on weekends.  Sunday mornings he always makes pancakes. Also, I get up early with the kids both days (6 am or so) and let DH sleep in.  I wake him up by 8:30 though - that's the MAGIC time that all three kids are starting to melt down if they don't DO something already.  Both days 1:00 to 3:00 is naptime or quiet time for EVERYBODY NO EXCEPTIONS.

Thank Goodness:  We have a cleaning lady and I pay bills during the week, so those two are not weekend projects for us.

Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
  • Both of the weekdays are pretty much the same--pretty low key.  With the cold weather, we have been staying in more and just playing in the house.  When its nicer, we are outside a lot.  We do playdates generally about once a month.  DH has a lot of projects going on in and outside the house so after breakfast, its usually me and the kids doing whatever.  When they nap, from about 1-3, I generally go out and do some errands.  Dinner is together.  On Sat., DH and I often watch a movie together.  I prefer Saturday, since I still have Sunday to look forward to.
  • No alarm, DD always wakes at the same time regardless of the day - 7ish.  So, we're up and doing things by 7:30 usually.  In general our weekends are pretty low-key.  We run errands (groceries) and do shopping that needs to be done.  We try to do things around the house (clean a bit or organize).  And we try to do something fun (whether spending time outdoors or renting a movie).  I prefer Saturday.  Sundays depress me because then it's just that much closer to the work week, and you have nothing to look forward to haha!
  • Both weekend mornings, I get up with J around 7 (after letting him stay in his crib for a bit after he wakes up at 6-6:30). No alarm needed! I usually hear him singing and/or kicking the wall. I feed him, we play, and DH gets up around 8:00. Then we generally go to the playground and let J run around (or DH takes him running). We like to get him outside and burn off some energy in the morning. He eats again around 11:00--sometimes we will go to a place nearby for muffins and coffee or something, J loves this. Then he is down for a nap by noon, usually sleeps until 2. I nap then as well, while DH catches up on news shows and Xbox or runs errands on his own. In the afternoon, we either see family or run errands--Target, Giant, etc. Saturday is usually bath night as well.

On Sunday, we head to the farmer's market at 10am, then hit the playground after, then snack and nap time. Sunday afternoons are usually more home-centric--cleaning, laundry, etc. We make some of J's food for the week and make something for ourselves. We also usually Skype with DH's parents before J has dinner.

  • I get really excited if DS sleeps until 6 on the weekends, so no alarm here! Since we just moved we're just trying to still get the house in order. I am trying to get in the habit of making a hot breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays. We always try to get DS outside for at least a little while in the morning if the weather is anywhere near decent, or to a playspace somewhere. It makes for better naps! He generally naps from 12:30 - 3, and we use that as "me" time on Saturdays. Playing around on the internet, napping, etc. Sunday nap time is be productive time - cook for the week, laundry, that kind of thing. I am trying really hard to get my grocery shopping done during the week because I hate how crowded it is on the weekends. I definitely like Saturdays better, Sunday that whole "back to work" thing looms all day!

  • I forgot to mention my weekly Sat night activity - kids laundry

  • T is my alarm.  She used to wake up around 7/7:15, now it's more like 6 or 6:30.  Angry  I'm blaming illness and possibly molars for now, but she HAS to go back to normal so mommy can sleep in at some point.  I am up with her for a few hours before DH wakes up, so we have breakfast and play until 8 or 8:30 when DH drags himself out of bed.  I pretty much hang out at home with T all morning both days (with a little cousin to help on Saturdays, we Skype with my parents for an hour or more on Sundays).  Lunch then naptime (for T and me).  Afternoons I try to run an errand each day while DH takes T to the park or hangs out at home.  Early dinner for T, a little play, bedtime for her, and about half the time we go out for dinner Sat. while FIL comes over to watch T.

That's about it.  I feel like I spend most of the weekend playing one on one with T (at times we can't leave the house for some reason) or running errands - not much time for relaxing or going on fun outings.  Saturday is better than Sunday, because at least I don't have to go to the grocery store.

  • Saturday:  Generally we are awake by 7:30 and then begin "playtime" and breakfast.  I try to plan for us going out of the house at least sometime in the day (usually Target or Costco, but sometimes somewhere more fun).  We are usually home by 1 p.m. for nap time and then have dinner at home, followed by more play.

Sunday: Church at 8 or 9 (and currently DD has a parks and rec class at 10:30).  Then usually we meet up with some friends for lunch and back home by 1 p.m. when DH does laundry while I go grocery shopping during naptime.  Dinner and a movie.

  • It's helpful for me to read everyone's weekend routine as I'm kinda struggling with ours. I feel like I'm running all weekend long and on Sunday night when I look back on the weekend, I feel like we've accomplished nothing.  I think I'm still working on my expections of what I can accomplish in a weekend with a baby vs without a baby.
