I spent about 20 minutes in an online live chat with an REI representative last night. I am trying to figure out how to get the best price on a BOB Revolution. Amazon has just lowered their price to $359 if you hadn't already heard.
The representative told me that there will be a 20% off promotion in March for REI members (membership is $20). Also, if you sign up for an REI credit card now, they will mail you a $50 REI gift card. Additionally any REI purchases on the REI credit card get 5% back.
Here's my math...
$399 is the current price
- $80 for the 20% discount
- $16 for the 5% back from the credit card (which I will pay off that month to avoid interest charges)
- $50 for the gift card promotion
+ $20 for the membership fee (though this gets you 10% back on non sale purches for the rest of your life...so this could pay itself off, but I'm adding it back in)
$273 price after discounts for a new BOB Revolution
Am I missing something or is this awesome?! I'm going to sign up for membership and the credit card today so I can get my BOB in March.

Yes, this is true. I would cancel the credit card after I used it. I have a bunch of store credit cards that I pay off every month and rarely use. My credit score hasn't changed. Also, I already have a mortgage...so it isn't like I am planning on any large purchase in the near future.
Yes, but you would have to sign up for the credit card to get the $50 gift card and additional 5% back.
You're close, the 5% wouldn't actually include the $50 for the gift card, so you'd only get $13.50 from the 5% back.
So that brings your price up to $275. Totally not worth it anymore.
(Sorry, former engineering analyst and math major, I can't help myself...)
ETA You would also have to pay sales tax, which might be zilch on Amazon depending where you live. In my state that 10% is a big deal, but we also have to pay it on Amazon :P Just something else to consider!
Thank you! You're right. Even with taxes, it will be less than Amazon.
The member coupon will work on the BOB. When I was chatting with the REI representative, I told him that I was looking to buy a BOB and wanted to know what promotions would work.
There is a 15% off coupon that you get if you sign up for their emails...that coupon excludes BOBs.
In recent past, the 20% member coupon specifically excluded strollers. But I have read stories of people being able to take advantage of it and others who couldn't. So just beware. As a member you do get a 10% rebate on full price merchandise so if you couldn't use the coupon you would at least get $40 in future REI credit.
REI is pretty awesome though, we bought our BOB a few weeks ago and then the regular price dropped to $399. I called a service rep and they were able to do a price adjustment over the phone since I had a membership and issue a check promptly.
