Cost of Newborn pics?

Hey ladies, I?m not due until April but I want to start planning so it does not sneak up on me.

I want to have newborn pics done a week or so after baby makes her arrival but I have no idea how much the average cost for something like this is. My preference would be to have someone come to my home, and to be able to buy the digital images so we can print as we would like for family and friends.

Any recommendations on photographers? And/or ideas on prices?

Re: Cost of Newborn pics?

  • Lemme just say that we wanted to do this but didn't really have the money in our budget, so when we saw a Groupon for a photoshoot for about $70 and 3 digital images we went for it.

I really wish we would have spent the extra money and used on of the Nesties. The person we hired didn't work well with our schedule so she ended up coming out when he was about 4 weeks old. Not too bad, but then the pics weren't even as good as some of the ones I had taken.

I hope someone has good pricing and recommendations for ya. I just wanted to warn you about picking someone that sounds "too good to be true."

  • The price of photographers really ranges from what I have noticed. What part of town are you in? I know of a few good photographers.  I will tell you this that your going to pay more for the cd, more than anything.

  • Your sitting fee probably won't be too bad - maybe up to $100-$200, but if you want the digital images - that is where the cost is going to come in for you.  Photographers need to make money outside of just their 1 hour sitting fee, so if you are not going to purchase prints from them, then they make money by charging for the images.  Unless you get a startup photographer who will be willing to include the images at a lower cost or for free (be careful, you get what you pay for), you could pay up to $100 per digital image or  ~$500 (or more) for all digital images.  So, that is where your money will be spent if you go with an individual photographer.

Usually a photographer has a link you can send out to friends and family to buy photos if they want.  Or if you want 1 image for an announcement, you can pay for just 1 image and go through shutterfly, or another photo site to make them.  But if you want several images in an announcement, it's usually cheaper just to go through your photographer (usually you can buy announcements from them and they help design it).

    Good luck!

  • The girl who I use (she took the pic in my sig) is super affordable AND gives you a CD with all your pics. Her name is Kaycee.

  • I'd like to recommend Shannon at Mercymaephotography.com... she's VERY affordable, and will come out to you, and she does amazing, adorable newborn pics!  She charges like $40 for the sitting fee, $25 if she has to drive far, and then you buy the pics either on a cd or by the picture.   :)  She did my maternity photos, very down to earth.
