We've just weaned DD to the swaddle still around her, but both her arms out (tomorrow night is the complete no-swaddle night!). But...I'm finding that her little hands get so cold now that they're not bundled up in the swaddle right next to her. I have a few sleepers with the extra fabric to pull over the hands, but a couple of her sleepers don't have that. I haven't tried the little mittens yet because I'm not sure they'd stay on, but I think I might have to try.
Any other ideas to keep LO's hands warm at night when she's not swaddled?
Re: LOs who aren't swaddled at night...
DD wears a cotton or fleece sleeper as well, and starting Saturday, she'll be in a halo sleep sack instead of a swaddle. The heat in the house is set to 70 I think. The rest of her is warm, just her hands are cold!
LO sleeps in a onsie socks and pjs. Depending on the temperature, last night she has on a two piece pj set (long sleeves)
Last night, she was in a onsie, long fleece pjs and I wrapped a blanket around her bottom, since it was a little cold.
Her hands are cold in the mornings but she's warm, I figure if she wakes up at night, which she doesn't then She is comfortable.

I may have to check the temp in her room just to see what it really is!
And she doesn't wake at night so I guess she's comfortable...she'd probably let me know if she wasn't.
When I go in to check on DD I pull the blanket up over her hands. It usually stays on till she wakes up but not always. No real advise other than that. I can't do that mittens cause DD is a thumb sucker and if she wakes up at night that needs to be in reach.
This. I have heard as long as the back of their neck is the right temp (not cool, not sweaty) then they are find. DD's hands are always chilly in the morning (she's just in the sleepsack with a fleece or cotton pj) but the rest of her is warm.
This for me too. Just talked to the pedi about this on Tuesday b/c we live in a super draftly house and I was nervous about her little icicle hands in the morning. Pedi said as long as her stomach and back of neck are warm, she's fine. We were putting socks on her hands but that wasn't helping as she was sucking on them and then she would end up with wet socks on her hands...yuck!
I was concerned about this when my LO started hated being swaddled at 4 weeks. I covered his hands with socks for the first few days, but LO sucks on his hands and he would wake up with lint all over his mouth and the socks would be soggy, so we started leaving his hands bare. The temp in our room dips down to about 60 on the coldest nights and his hands are icy cold when he wakes up, but he doesn't seem to care. His body is toasty warm and he still sleeps 5-6 hrs at a time, so I don't worry about it anymore.
If you do feel that you need to cover her hands, try socks. Or get some actual fleece mittens that you can use for outdoors as well. I think the scratch mittens are a waste of money.
