Maryland Babies

1st birthday

DS has a birthday coming up and while I am super excited and planning it, I am trying to figure out a guest list.  For your LO's birthday, did you only invite family?  I have some co-workers that treat DS like part of their family and I was thinking of inviting them but the majority would be family.  What was your guest list like for the 1st birthday?  It's only going to be at my house which is an ok size since we can put people in the basement to watch TV or hang out.

Re: 1st birthday

  • We invited family & close friends (which included a few co-workers & some neighbors).

We lucked out that his b-day is in the end of April & the weather was gorgeous that day so people were able to go out in the yard.  We also don't have a fence & neither does our neighbor so the kids were able to go in their yard to play, too.

  • As of now we're planning on inviting family and close friends (some of whom have babies of their own). We're hoping for a nice day so we can have the adults sans kids playing corn hole and other yard games, drink, bbq and still celebrate Bailey. Essentially, we're having a cookout that also celebrates her first birthday complete with cake, lots of treats, decorations, etc.

  • Thanks ladies!!  I would LOVE to have a cook out or something outdoorsy, but early March is iffy with weather.

  • We had a HUGE party...  mostly because I have a HUGE family.  We ended up inviting 70 people and I think we had about 55 attend.  My Dad is a member of a fraternal organization, so we were able to use their meeting space for super cheap.

We will not be having big parties every year.  This year we are having a party with only us, grandparents (3 sets), my sister, DH's brother and SIL and DD's first cousins. That still adds up to almost 20 people, which is plenty big enough.

Have fun planning the party.  First birthdays are a lot of fun!

  • For A's 1st birthday party we had close friends and family. For her second we decided to just do family and a few friends. I'm thinking in the future, I may just keep it to family and just those close friends.

  • We had close friends and our families drove down from Pittsburgh. I think there were 15-20 people. It was mostly an adult party with cake for L. As she gets older, we will probably have smaller, more kid-centric parties. Honestly, we don't really have any friends with kids and we doubt our families are really going to drive 3.5 hours for DD's birthday every year at the end of January.
