1st Trimester

Any cures for the horrible taste in mouth?

I had my 10-week appointment this week and the doctor told me most likely the bad taste in my mouth will last my entire pregnancy.  I was really hoping it would just be the first trimester.  Now that I know I have another 7 months I really need to find a solution.  Has anyone found any good remedies?

  • I had this with my 2nd pregnancy and it only lasted the 1st tri. I have it again and I feel like it's getting better.

  • I would try gum or tic tacs. Hopefully it does not actually last the whole pregnancy!

  • I had this with my first pregnancy and it DID last the entire time.  I have it again with this one.  I chew sugar-free gum a lot and I also keep tic tacs of all flavors on hand.  Sucks, I know!

  • This sounds nuts, but blowpops.  Those are the only things that work for me without giving me heartburn.

  • I feel your pain! I felt like I needed to constantly be chewing gum, drinking or having a peppermint candy just to get through the day. What I found that ended up working for me was cleaning my tongue. Sounds crazy, but it worked!

I have one of those Colgate 360 toothbrushes with the tongue cleaner/scraper on the back of the toothbrush head. I clean my tongue whenever I get that taste or whenever I brush my teeth, and it helps so much! (if you look at your tongue in the mirror, you might see a film on your tongue. When you clean your tongue, its no longer there) The only challenge was I had to go fairly far back. Just try not to go too far, otherwise you risk gagging a little.

I would rinse and gargle with mouthwash after and there would be no more taste!

I now have a toothbrush with the tongue cleaner in my desk at work and in my purse at all times Smile
