Breastfeeding

taking less from bottles (of pumped milk)

LO figured out how to hold his own bottle over the past few days. Our nanny says he pushes her hands away, gets really annoyed, wont eat if she tries to help him hold the bottle. But, he hasnt figured out how to tip the bottle all the way to get the last of it so he is leaving nearly 2oz in the bottle.

Prior to this, he had slowly worked his way up to taking 5.5oz (he always took jsut under 5oz at weighed feedings, she feeds slowly with breaks, etc, so even though its a lot for a BF baby, I don't think he was being way overfed or anything).

WWYD? She's fairly willing to try things out but I can't be sure about how much effort she puts into executing my ideas if they aren't working.

I'd really like to encourage him to eat more during the day so he is less hungry at night...but thats a whole separate issue about how to tell if he's waking for food vs comfort/habit.

Re: taking less from bottles (of pumped milk)

  • we had a similar issue of DS being helpful about feedings. my mom watches him during the day, and she would just hold his "helpful" hands down with one arm and give him the bottle with the other arm (he takes his bottle sitting on her lap, facing away from her so he can watch what's going on). so one arm like a hug around him keeping his arms down, and the other hand holding the bottle. you might want your baby to be independent about holding his own bottle, in which case i don't know what to suggest.
