November 2011 Moms

*Vieve* and other dairy free moms

How long did it take after you went dairy free for LOs poops to become normal or you started to notice less mucus? DD isn't really colicky, so her diapers are about all I have to go on.

I started noticing a lot of mucus in DDs diapers about 3 weeks ago (just mucus, no blood and they weren't green) and went totally dairy free 12 days ago.  There has been no improvement.  I switched first to soy milk and then almond milk about a week ago and now her diapers are turning green with mucus, so I am thinking maybe she has a bit of a nut sensitivity.  I feel like I can't eat anything anymore and with no improvement over the past 2 weeks or so I am so frustrated!

  • My LO's poops are still more on the green side. I've only been completely dairy free for about 12 days myself though. Before that I was just cutting out major dairy products. I never saw mucous so I can't really help on that end.

Fussy/colic and gassiness were his major symptoms.

  • Hi, I gave up ALL forms of dairy the first of this month. You have to research a lot - dairy is in everything! So if you are just giving up milk, cheese, ect you probably won't notice a difference if there is a dairy sensitivity. I started making my own granola bars and snacks because I can only eat meat, eggs, fruits, veg, and grains that don't have milk. Check labels, milk was in my bread so I had to find one without it. Basically nothing prepackaged.

After one week I noticed improvements. It takes 2 weeks for milk protiens to leave your body and another 2 weeks to leave your baby's. My son also has reflux so I have to keep him on meds for that too to notice a drastic difference.

Here's some sites I started with.

It has been about 5 weeks for me of eliminating all obvious dairy and soy and as much hidden dairy and soy as I can (need to try a bit harder). I definitely noticed the poops stopped being mucous-y somewhere between 2-3 weeks. We still have lots of other symptoms though (eczema, congestion, now poops are turning green) so I am going to do a complete elimination diet and then start introducing foods back in slowly.

The above websites are great- thanks for sharing! Another helpful one is: mspimama.com

  • Thanks for the websites jnh and azco.

I've been completely and totally dairy free (even hidden) for almost 2 weeks and thought I would start to notice a difference by now.  I'll give it another week or so and if there is no change, I'm thinking about a total elimination diet.  I really hope it doesn't come to that!
