Your bed / your kid's bed

When you were a kid, what kind of bed did you have?

What kind of bed does/will your DC have?

When I was growing up, I always had a twin bed.  I was remembering last night how small it was!  I am on the taller side and I just remember it being uncomfortable (basically too short).

DD has a full bed, since we bought a convertible crib.  We went from crib to full size.  My 2 year old lucked out, we didn't want to buy another crib when she was born and we we got a new bed, so she sleeps on a queen.

The interesting thing is, they are BOTH major bed hogs.  Not saying there's anything wrong with a twin size bed, but if either of them are sick and I sleep with them, I end up sleeping on the very edge of the bed!

Re: Your bed / your kid's bed

  • I had a full bed growing up and it always felt enough- but now that we have a king- I dont know how I sept in it (or how DH and I slept in it when we first moved in together)

DS's crib "opens" to a toddler bed and uses the matress it already has but when we go to buy him a bed we'll probably go full or twin xlong because hes going to be tall

  • Growing up I always had a twin bed. I think I got a full bed when I started college (lived at home for 2 years).  In my first bedroom, all that would fit was a twin.

Jules started out sleeping on a full bed this summer, on the floor of our bedroom.
Now that she's in her own room, she's in a twin, because there's no way for a full to fit without touching the heaters (DH and I are both way too paranoid for that).  She's actually done pretty well with the switch, but she is a bed hog too.  Or maybe she just likes to cuddle with me, but she sleeps practically on top of me if I'm in there.

  • I slept on a twin growing up - until HS when I started having back problems (not b/c it was a twin but because it was a super shittty twin that was all broken from like 10 years of jumping on it) so I got a firm double and OMG I felt like a queen, haha!

    We bought Evan a double.

  • Both my sister and I always had twin beds, but they were twin XL since those were the mattresses/frames my parents had inherited from some relative. We will be moving DD to a queen bed soon, because that is the mattress we currently have (her new room is our current guest room). If we didn't already have this mattress, she would have a twin.

  • I had a twin growing up, then a full when I lived on my own. DS has a full size bed, since that's what his crib converted to when he outgrew the toddler bed configuration. He's like me - barely moves at night, and he insists on smooshing his face up against the mesh bedrail be have up, so 3/4 of his bed is never really used unless we're in there with him.
  • I had a twin bed until I was about 10.  I frequently fell off it so I slept on the floor a lot.  Once I woke up UNDER the bed, talk about freaking out.  When I was about 10, one of my mom's friends was giving away a queen size water bed so then I had a waterbed.

Ty has a queen, it is a terrible bed I bought when we were broke college students at some discount place for less than $200 over 10 yrs ago.  So he definitely needs a new bed, I have been thinking full size memory foam.  Bri has a full size bed I bought when I was 8.5 months pregnant.

  • OMG, this post just made me remember that DH stayed with me in my dorm room every night in college since I had a single and his roommate was a huge partier.  I don't know how we slept together in a twin every single night.  Now our queen feels too small!

  • I had a twin growing up.  When DH & I first moved in together we slept in a twin together, talk about crazy!  Now we have a King and sleep on opposite sides of the bed, as far away from each other as we can.

Stella is still in her crib and that converts into a toddler bed.  I'm not sure what we will get her after she outgrows that.

  • I had a twin until middle school when I got a full.

Both boys have twins because they share a room & there is no way anything bigger would fit in there!

  • I had a home-made bed that was slightly smaller than a twin.  The mattress was a piece of foam that Mom got cut to size at JoAnn Fabric.  When I got into high school and my brother went away to college I stole his room...which was a double bed.

The 2 year old is in a toddler bed.

The 7 year old is in a twin bed.

We have a queen in our guest room and are trying to decide if we give the queen to the 7 year old when we move and the twin to the 2 year old...or if we keep the guest room bedroom set and eventually buy a new twin set for 2 year old.

  • Both dh and I had twins until we were married. Well, we bought our queen size a couple months before we were married, so dh got to sleep on it early.

Dd is still in the crib. But a friend gave us a toddler bed, so we will eventually move her into that I am guessing. We have a full size bed in the guest room/Clayton's room. So eventually she will probably be in that as I can't see us downgrading to a twin and getting rid of the full. Unless we keep the full in Clayton's room and get her another bed.

  • I had a twin waterbed at my Mom's at the age of 6, a twin regular bed at my dad's forever. I upgraded to a queen waterbed around 10 I think and then got a queen regular bed just before I graduated.

Dh and I slept in a twin in IQ, I blame my back problems on that and the waterbed! We currently have a queen and it is too small...I would prefer a king and my own space.

DS has a twin captains bed and will stay in that for a long time. His crib converted but he was too big for the crib so it made no sense to keep him in a toddler bed. It will convert into a full if we buy the rails but I think it will be too big for new nursery, so new baby will likely just get a new twin if we stay in this house.

  • Both my sister and I slept in twin size beds until we moved into our own places in college. Then we both had full size ones. DH also always slept in a twin growing up. Like many of you have said I too think back to college and wonder how we would share a twin size in the dorm rooms. Although DH had his bed lofted with a futon under it so we pulled that out to sleep on a lot.

When we first moved in together we slept on a full. Now DH and I sleep on an Olympic Queen. It's slightly bigger than a queen but smaller than a king. To my knowledge Simmons is the only mattress manufacturer that makes them.

Both DD's have convertible cribs. So they will transition to toddler bed and then to a full size... Which stills seems crazy to me when they are so little and have such a big bed. It's going to take up so much of their room. T will probably be in her crib at least a few more months before we switch her to the toddler bed. We're worried about her climbing out of the bed whenever she doesn't want to sleep.

  • I shared a queen sized bed with my older sister until I was 8. Then my oldest brother moved out and I got my own room. I got a full sized bed at that time followed by a queen size bed when I was in high school. DH and I are still using the queen mattress I got in high school. I think we are due for a new one.

DS is still in his crib. We are trying to decide if we should get him a toddler bed and have #2 use his crib or buy a new crib for #2.

  • I almost always had a full size bed growing up.  I hope that I can do the same with both boys (their cribs convert).

DH and I have a Queen which I love.  Enough room that we are not always touching, but can always stay close :).  I wouldn't want a king, but they are nice when we stay in hotels.

  • I had a twin until I was 22 and bought myself all new bedroom furniture and got a queen.  DH and I sleep in that bed now, but we really want a king.  If we stay in this house, our kids will have to have twins because the bedrooms are too small for anything else.
