Flat Spot :-(

Ugh I feel like such a bad mommy today. Over the past few days I have noticed LO favoring one side of his head when he lays in his bouncer, etc.... he can move his head but I guess this side is most comfortable for him. I was running my hand through his long hair and BAM flat spot on the back of his head toward the side where he likes to lay his head! DH was like "no there's nothing there you're crazy (running his hand over it) ... oh wow oh yeah there's something there" but then he said I was over exaggerating. I emailed our pedi and he said it most likely is nothing to worry about and sent us a form on how to reverse the process. I have tried turning his head the opposite way and for the most part he refuses to do so (part of his stubborn personality). Anyone else have this issue? I just feel like such a failure even though I know it's something that happens....

Re: Flat Spot :-(

  • I'm concerned about flat head as well! Our pedi hasn't noticed anything concerning, but I'm still paranoid. I'm able to feel a flat spot :(  I know it will only get worse because she hates being on her tummy, so she is always laying flat. Tonight I ordered the Noggin Nest by Boppy to help. I read the reviews and it seemed successful. I'm not going to let her sleep at night with it; just when she is sitting in her bouncy chairs, playing with her mobile, and napping.

  • I don't know if it's realistic to expect that LO won't have a flat spot at all. Feel your own head- I can feel a flat spot on mine. I was worried about DD's, but the pedi said it was nothing.

  • We're dealing with the same thing - I noticed a flat spot on the right side of DS's head and asked the pedi about it at his 2 month appt. He said DS's neck seems a bit stiff and he definitely favors looking to the right, so we need to work on stretching his neck and placing him so that all the action is to his left. I'm also trying to do more tummy time and spend more time holding him in the opposite arm. I hope it works and we don't have to resort to a helmet or something like that.
