I was reading our check-in's from yesterday/today, and a few of you mentioned you were on 50mg of Zoloft and it has made a world of difference. 150mg used to do the job for me before pregnancy and during pregnancy it was pretty good (wacky hormones, which is why I'm saying "pretty good").
I am thinking I need to up my dose to 200mg. My doctor has said in the past that 400mg is really the high end of the dosage he is comfortable going, so in that respect, I guess I'm kinda middle of the road. I am also assuming that weight plays a factor in dosage effectivness? I didn't think to ask him specifically about that though...
So I'm feeling like compared to the other Zoloft posts, my dosage is high...considering that it seems to have made a world of difference with lots of you and at only 50mg to boot.
I'm just wondering, if you feel like sharing, if your weight might coorolate with your dosage? I'm currently overweight for me: 183lb at 5'7" tall. Just curious and don't feel like you need to confess your weight if you don't want to!
Re: PPD/PPA Zoloft mommies
Asking someone to post their weight on a public forum 2 months PP is kind of a death. However....YGPM!!!
I'm not a Zoloft user (never worked for me) but I'm a long-term combo Wellbutrin/Ativan user and in my experience, the dosage did not correlate with my weight. From what I understand, it all has to do with how your body processes the chemicals. At my lightest I was 150lbs & at my heaviest I was 220lbs-- but I had the same dose at any weight because it was what works for me. (300mg of Wellbutrin & 1mg of Ativan)
My dad, on the other hand, adjusts to meds very quickly and has to increase the dosage to keep them effective until he hits the highest dose-- then they no longer work for him. He switches antidepressants every 3 years or so. (He weighs about 140lbs.)
Huh! This is very interesting! I wonder if it is strictly the pregnancy/post pregnancy with it's wacked out hormones that is to blame for the effectiveness of my dosage? I have plenty to ask my doctor!
I'll bet that definitely has something to do with it! They warned me that pregnancy could change the effectiveness of some other meds I was taking, too-- like my thyroid meds.
I'm 5'2, weighing 139 on 50mg of zoloft. At almost a month of taking it I had a major panic attack so today we discussed upping my dose to 100. We decided at this time to stay with the 50 as I experienced heightened anxiety when I first began taking zoloft and I'm afraid an increase at this point might send me of the deep end.
I'm going to maintain at 50 for the next month and if I'm doing okay go up to 100.
He also gave me an rx for xanax for my panic attacks. I will only take this in an emergency situation as I BF, so I would have to pump and dump. Plus xanax is bad news if taken too much or abused.
I remember taking this once or twice early on when I was having panic attacks (this was before my diagnosis of depression before pregnancy) and as I recall, it made me kind of loopy. Thankfully soon after, came the depression diagnosis and the attacks slowly decreased as we found the proper medication for the depression. In my case, the attacks were almost like my body saying, "I've had enough! Now do something about it!" Many years of living with it without knowing took it's toll.
Meds are a fully thing - and scary sometimes too. Sounds like your doctor is on top of things with your dosage! I am certainly going to ask if pregnancy can reduce the effectiveness of my script either temporarily or permantly...
