Breastfeeding

A student in my class just saw my pump parts...

I keep them in the mini-fridge in my classroom (I teach 3rd grade) and as I was getting my lunch out she saw them. She says, "Oh, you have those things to feed the baby. You're still doing that??" Too funny! I got over my shock quickly to say, "Yes, I'll be doing that for at least a year." Should I mention something to my principal in case she says something to her parents? I'm not embarassed or anything, I just didn't know what to say!

  • Haha! I don't think there is a need to mention it, don't make a mountain out of a mole hill. If anything does get back to you just reiterate what you said to the student!

  • Too funny!  I think it's awesome she even knew what they were!  I bet she'd forgotten about it in 5 minutes and it probably won't come up again.  I wouldn't mention anything especially since you aren't doing anything wong.

  • Wow, I had no idea what pump parts looked like until I bought them - definitely wouldn't have recognized them at 8 years old. Her mom must have pumped recently. I'm sure it's no big deal.

  • Too funny...her mom probably has BFed before and that is probably how she knows what they are.  I wouldn't say anything either...no biggie.
PPD/PPA Mom...it has been super hard, but I'm making it! Slow steps...

  • Ha! Thanks girls - I was surprised she knew what they were too. I am so close to the end, and I can't believe I got busted! ;)

  • That's so funny.  Kids are just curious about everything.  I wouldn't worry about it.  If someone brings it up just say the same thing.  Don't make a big deal out of nothing.
  • That's funny...I teach 1st grade and went to grab a water out of my fridge last week and one of the girls said "Ohhh you have tiny bottles of milk in there!"  Not sure how she even saw them bc of my fridge location...I was like yup and moved on with the day.  Kids are too funny!
