How much awake time?

Mary is staying awake for 3-5 hours at a time...She gets pretty fussy and I try to put her down, but she just ant to be held.  I have tried putting her down before she gets fussy to avoid her being over tired, but that doesn't work either.  She sleeps really well at night, and usually takes one longish nap during the day, but rigght now for example, she has been awake for 3 hours and is really fussy, but won't let me put her down to sleep.  We swaddle and soothe and everything.  Any tips?  How long does your LO stay awake at a time?

  • My DS is awake for roughly 2hours at a time. He's pretty good at going to sleep and if he is overly fussy and will not sleep if he's tired I'll put him in his swing. He cannot resist the power of his swing.

  • DS is usually up for 2-3 hours at a time.

  • He's usually awake for about 2 hours at a time. Then he'll get overtired and fussy and it takes a while to get him to relax and fall asleep. Our magic trick is the fan on the microwave. It instantly calms him and we can rock/bounce him to sleep.

  • Try to always get her down no later than two hours from waking.   30-45 minutes feeding, 30-45 mi utes play.  Then down time for nap.  Will usually change and help baby relax.

  • I'm having the same problems you are. So much fussing. I feel horrible but I can't ever tell what the right thing to do is!

  • When my LO starts to get fussy/tired during the day, I put him in the Ergo and take a few laps around the house.  It calms him down so I can get him down for a nap.

this.  at this age they can't usually handle being awake more than 2 hours at a time.  after 1 hour (including feeding time), start looking for tired signs...yawning, eyes getting heavy, etc and start helping her relax

  • Lately I feel like all my lo does is sleep. She is awake for like 5 hours in total the whole day lol. At first I was scared with all her naps that she wouldn't sleep at night but it's 11 am and she is still sleeping!
