Trouble TTC

migraines

I know I am still early in the game, but I am so afraid.  I have gotten migraines since 4th grade and had gotten to the point where I was down to only 1 every 6 months with the use of a daily prevention med.  After going off of BC, they are here with avengence!  Clearly hormonally related in the last 2 months I have had at least 8...with them lasting up to two days (previously only 8-12 hours!).  My RE has warned me that meds/pregnancy are going to be no fun.  Has anyone else dealt with this?  Did you find anything that helped???  TIA

Re: migraines

  • I have had daily migraines my entire life and have never ever found a preventative to work.  The fertility drugs make me miserable.  There is NOTHING to help that pain. I went to work and turned off the lights, gave the kids an assignment and put my head down, then came home and slept, repeat.  I'm dreading doing it again. Hopefully you won't experience the same thing

  • I'm the complete opposite.  I got crazy migraines while on BCP.  I took Maxalt and it did wonders for me.  Of course, I'm not sure if it is safe while TTC but it is something that may be able to be taken during the 2WW.

  • I get hormone related migraines - usually around AF.  I gave up my Topamax to TTC and am cleared to take Maxalt outside of my 2ww.  I go to an acupuncturist that specializes in fertility and she throws in some migraine treatment that helps.  I's been pretty manageable for two years.  I have to keep an eye on my triggers which I can avoid.

  • The Bump won't let me edit to add this...  My RE had me take Femara vs Clomid as it was less likely to give you headaches and has less side effects.  It worked very well and I didn't get any headaches.

  • Unfortunately none of the triptans (emergency meds) work for me; I have had multiple trials of most of them.  When I get one, I take fioricet (pain) and phenergan (nausea).  I have already been told that fioricet is a total no go when KU.  They are suggesting high dose naproxen and I will still be able to take phenergan.

  • Good to know that Femara worked better for you!  My RE mentioned at my first appointment that she has to look into it more but was thinking Femara would be a better option for me than Clomid.  Helps me to stay hopeful :)
