If I receive one more handmade blanket....

I'm going to take off LO's diaper and let her poop all over it on purpose.  Seriously-I know people love to give homemade blankets instead of buying a gift, and the first couple were really sweet, but where am I supposed to store all of 7 of them?

Signed,

  • OMG I couldn't agree more!  Oh and stuffed animals, I'm maxed out.

  • That's funny...I think we received one or two stuffed animals.  I'm so glad because my mom had saved some of my favorites from when I was a kid and I didn't want a billion of them.  Today I got this poofy crocheted sweater and booties with the matching blanket that she won't even fit in until she's at least 2 years old.....
  • Send them to me instead. I didn't receive a single handmade blanket. It made me really sad that my grandma wasn't around to meet Nico.

  • Ummmm.....donate them to someone who will appreciate them a little bit???

  • We use all of ours as small playmats since the babe likes to spit up when he's on his belly.  It makes cleanup easier.  Just a thought!

  • I have 6 of them sitting at the top of my closet, where they have been since I was pregant with DD1 (2+ years ago). All the stuffed animals (there were a lot) got donated to the hospital.

Will you give me your address and I will try to get to the post office soon?

  • I definitely could do without all these stuffed animals.

My aunt sent me 2 sweatshirts for LO. Size 4T. 4T! WTF?

  • Ugh, I agree!

I even got a blanket from my mom's bowling buddy's mom! I never met my mom's bowling buddy or her mother but she found out I was having a baby and made me a blanket. Sweet, but I think I must have at least 15 crocheted blankets. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with all of them.

Yea..I think this is why I was kinda urked after I thought about it.  Its a friend of my MIL's that I've never and probably never will meet and neither has DH...so its not like it reminds me of a loved one or anything. The ones that my Aunts made me or close friends are special...but between these and the regular blankets, its just a bit overwhelming to know what to do with them all!

  • They are great to wrap baby dolls in when playing with 2 year olds.  And I leave them in my car and one in the stroller, one in the rocker and one in the swing.

  • I feel your pain, my family is filled with knitters and crocheters and quilters... I must have about 5 or 6 also and I just got another one today and then there's the star shaped "tummy mat" one (Yea I confess that one is rolled up along the bottom of our door to stop the awful draft because I can't find a draft guard anywhere!) OH and add the 2 that I made DD.... ugh, stuffed animals we aren't too terrible on yet. The nice thing is that most of the family that has made these handmade, closet cluttering, rainbow of goodies never EVER come around EVER so I won't feel too guilty about donating them. ASAP!

  • Count me as one who could do without another blanket....or 18.  Five or six of those are handmade.  Only 1 of the storebought ones came with a gift receipt and we don't  have room for all of them, so I need to figure out something to do with them.

Rachaelski - I have a red and white blanket I can send you if you are interested for little Nico.  I also have a pink one with roses, but I'm guessing that might not be in your color scheme for  your little guy. If you want either or both of them, just PM me your address and I'll get it in the mail to you.

We also have an overabundance of stuffed animals and I'll probably end up donating them.  If you are looking to offload some stuffed animals, many police depts will take donationed stuffed animals to give to children when they are taken from their homes due to abuse.  My current local dept isn't big enough to warrant that, but I've donated in the past when I lived elsewhere.  I may try to find a bigger dept to donate to before DD is old enought to realize I am giving away her toys. Surprise

  • We got a few stuffed animals and a lot of blankets, I think we have 10 and 5 are handmade.  I was really touched at how many people made blankets for her, but I agree that I'm not sure what to do with all of them.  Until she picks "the" blankie, I will keep rotating them.  I have one in the stroller, swing, bouncy seat, pnp, diaper bag, and throw them all in the wash weekly.

  • We only got one handmade blanket from my DHs godmother. Luckily, we've steered clear of the stuffed animals. DD has tons and we take them to my MILs little by little so that the dog can play with them aka tear them apart.

This one we just had to buy, not technically a stuffed animal but it's stuffed :)

  • I guess I am the odd woman out.  I love my children's handmade blankets and quilts.   I got rid of most of my store bought blankets because they hold no meaning for me.  As someone who knits, I try to only give my handmade gifts to people who will appreciate them.
