Breastfeeding

nursing pads

I apologize if this has been asked a million times before.  What nursing pads do you recommend?  I didn't breastfeed my other 2 children, and I leaked very minimally.  I know I didn't use nursing pads at all after my DS, but I did with my DD.  I only used them a couple days, but I remember they just kind of sat in my bra and were very obvious.  I imagine I'll be needing to use them more often when breastfeeding this baby?  I'm not even sure how necessary they are.  I would like something that is less obvious and looks smooth under clothing.  Thanks!

  • Hi there! It really depends on what you are looking for...for disposables i really like that lanisoh (sp?) ones.  However if I could do it all over again I would have bought one box of disposables and then bought resuable ones.  I now have the resuable Bamboobies kind and LOVE them.  Highly recommended and worth the $30.  You will spend that on disposables in three months anyway.

  • I only bought disposable.  I had the lansinoh ones which work but feel like a mini diaper in your bra.  My nipples felt pinched with the extra mass in my bra so I bought the medelas next time which are kinda formed, thinking I'd have more room for the nips, but I've never even opened the box.  Occassionally I will wear them at night (like weekends when I might get to sleep longer) but after the first couple weeks I have hardly any leaking. I've used about a box in 4 months. It's kinda like diapers, you just have to try them out to see what you like/what works for you.  This is a great thing to get as a gift because you can try different brands.

  • I bought the super-cheap Nuk ones and loathed them - soaked through very easily, slipped everywhere, very obvious under my bra.

I use the lansinoh ones now, and I like them a lot. They're contoured, fit in my bra nicely, and have extra (optional) sticky pads on the back so they don't slip.

I wear them every day, all day - when I let down, both sides gush BM, so otherwise I'd soak through my bras.

As an aside: you can get them really cheap on Amazon Mom through subscribe and save. I got them on super-sale, ended up getting about 6 months worth for half the price.

Totally agree on all counts.  I did the exact same thing.  They bamboobies are super soft and super thin so they're comfortable and they don't show through.

I don't leak a lot, but if I'm worried about leakage I go with disposable Lansinoh ones; they're great for big leaks.  For everyday normal use with little leakage I like reusable ones from Le Leche League - on diapers.com.  They're a good shape and don't show, and they wash well.
