My DD never took to me wearing her, she will contently go walking in our ergo-style carrier but its not for around the house etc. etc. We tried a million times with the moby from infancy but she never liked it. Now that shes older and I can try some different holds, shes outgrown her moby. She was a preemie and is now 17 pounds and wants to be held all the time. I dont mind but honestly shes getting heavy. What kind of soft/easy carrier would you suggest for a baby her size?
Re: Wearing an older baby?
I love wraps and wear DS almost daily in a woven wrap. It is so comfortable and can do front, back , or hip carries for any weight of baby or child.
Mei Tais are a versatilite kind of carrier.
As for soft-structured (the kind with buckles and sadjustable straps)--Ergo and Beco are popular brands.

DS is about 18 lb. I use an Ergo for walks and longer wearing, and mostly a ring sling for trips to and from the car, or anywhere he'll be in and out (like church, where he gets held a while and plays a while).
I also have a mei tai, but it's been in the closet lately. I'm in love with my ring sling.

There are so many options! It really just depends on what your and your LO's needs/wants are. My recommendation is going to be a lot different if you're looking for something super comfy for all day wear than if your primary concern is ease of use for quick strolls to the end of the block. KWIM?
My favorite all around carrier is an approx 5 meter long woven wrap. I can do pretty much any carry I want with it, and it's super comfy for both DS and me. Of course, wraps have the steepest learning curve.
If you want something with a minimal learning cure that will be comfy for extended wear, you might want a buckle carrier, like the Ergo, or perhaps a mei tai.
Only planning to do super short carries or a lot of up-and-down? A ring sling or pouch sling might be your best bet.
Like I said, lots of options.
Thanks for all your feedback. I would like to use a carrier for things around the house so I can have one or two hands to use if I need to. I also would like to be able to use it to make short trips to the store or whatever where I wont need a stroller and for in/out of the car at friends and play dates - I'm leaning towards a woven - I'll have to find a baby wearing group or someone in my area with experience to show me
