How often should I be pumping? When I am with LO, I nurse every 2.5 - 3 hours. I feel like I should be pumping more often than that.
Also, I worked a half day last week. LO went through 7 ounces of expressed milk with my mom and I only pumped 4.
Will this get better as I keep going? I've been making sure to drink a ton of water.
Re: First full day pumping at work
Try to pump as often as you would feed your LO, more often should not be necessary. Drink lots of water, ad make sure you are eating enough calories - milk production went down for me at first when I started back to work because I wasn't eating nearly as much as I had been when I was home and could grab snacks as needed.
Don't stress if your output doesn't always exactly equal what she eats while you're away - you will catch up and there will be times you'll produce more than she eats, etc.
Good luck!!
Here's my pumping schedule- 545am, 9am, 11am, 2pm, 4pm, 600pm, 800pm, 1000pm.
-I don't pump during lunch because I go see DD at daycare, and I don't like to pump the second I get back. Plus having the pump session at 4 means I don't have to pump until 6/630, so I'm not doing it the second I get home. Sometimes I miss the 8pm pumping session, or sometimes I only pump 3x during the work day (never miss both). Currently I am able to freeze about 2.5-5oz a day.
ETA: I don't pump at night...but my LO sleeps through the night. I get about 10oz in the morning, and between 3-4 oz the rest of the day each pumping session. My DD eats 3oz about every 2 hours during the day and every 3 hours in the evening (I think daycare overfeeds her). So she eats 6am, 830am, 1030am, 1230pm, 230pm, 430pm, 730pm, 1030pm and then is down for the night.
Are you exclusively pumping?
I think my aunt who is tending him today is also overfeeding him. I called her and he is "just so hungry." I think as his mom I just have his cues figured out. She said he was chomping on his binky, which he doesn't do when he is hungry. He sucks a few times and spits it out.
Ahhh I am stressed!
This is impressive! I give you tons of kudos for this pumping schedule.
I feed my daughter in the morning at 6:30 a.m. and then pump about two times a day at work, pick her up from daycare at 5:00 p.m. and nurse her at 7:00 p.m. before she goes to bed. I'm pretty sure I should be pumping more regularly but I do get up in the middle of the night to pump while LO sleeps and get about 14-16 ounces at that session so that usually makes up for what I'm lacking during the day. Honestly, you'll figure it out as you go along and what works best for you and your work schedule. It is next to impossible for me to pump three times a day at work, although LO takes 3 bottles at daycare. I give up a some extra sleep in the middle of the night to make up for it. Good luck!!
I just found out recently that most babies eat around 25 oz per day (varies from 19 to 30 oz) between 1 and 6 months old. It doesn't really increase that much. I thought my daughter was eating like 8 oz at a time but she doesn't. I just send 3 - 4 oz bottles to daycare with her and she's good. Babies can overeat from a bottle because they don't know when to stop. Try telling your aunt to only feed her 4-5 oz per session and then give a pacifier. A lot of time they just want to keep sucking and not eating. One night my hubby gave her 10 ounces before I knew all of this!
