2nd Trimester

Not really worried, but could use some encouragement

So yesterday at our 2nd trimester ultrasound, the doctor informed us that there was a marker with our LO. She has a Choroid plexus cyst, which is an indicator of trisomy 18.

She told us that the chances of something being wrong is 1 in 1408 or .001%. I know this is a very small percentage so I really shouldn't be worried. We go back in at 27 weeks to do another ultrasound (I had to go in anyways because of my hypothyroidism). Hopefully, by then the cyst will be gone.

I was just wondering if any other mothers had this same marker with their LO and what happened with it?

  • I know exactly how you are feeling.  They discovered a CPC on our little girl at my a/s (19 weeks).  We go back at 22 weeks to see if it's gone and check the baby again I guess.  I really think the 22w u/s is just for my peace of mind.  I was so upset when we first found out about it, but now I am feeling SO much better.  I have spoken to my peri, my OB, and a genetics counselor.  Almost always with T18, there are other abnormalities found on the u/s.  Also, I'm not sure if you had a first tri screening done but those are also a very good indicator that everything is okay.  Speaking with the genetics counselor really helped.  She had a lot of info about my risk level and assured me the risk of anything being wrong is very very small.  I am really not worried about it anymore.

  • I had a similar scare yesterday.  Dr. called and said they found fluid on baby's brain and possible cyst.  I was so worried and crying!!  We went for a more in depth ultrasound today with a perinatologist and it was absolutely nothing, praise God!!  I read a lot last night about the choroid plexus cyst and a lot of times they resolve themselves in utero.  I pray this is the case for your baby.  I know it is so scary!!!!

Then that would be an isolated CPC.  If you look up "isolated CPC" you will see they are almost always nothing to worry about it.
